A massive TK Maxx has just opened near me. I've never been to one before, is it worth a visit?

What sorts of things can I get? Are they really cheaper?
Any things I should definitely get?

I love TKMaxx but it can vary massively from branch to branch. You can also never go in looking for a particular thing as you won’t find it but if you’re just browsing chances are you’ll find a great bargain.

Bigonesmallone3 · 09/02/2019 11:26

I love tk maxx, lovely home stuff, great for designer finds for adults and children.
Definitely worth a visit

ImNotKitten · 09/02/2019 11:26

Not as good as it used to be IMO. Lots of ‘designers’ make cheaper lines for there so the clothes aren’t as much of a bargain as it seems. Also TK has its own brands of clothing so not all are proper designers/ brands. You can sometimes get a good bargain there but don’t be fooled by the ‘RRP’.

Ooo I might pop down there today then.

I'm in need of some new towels and bedding and they had some lovely bits on the website. Am I not likely to find those in store though?

I do love a bargain. Plus there's a Home Bargains next door so it won't be a waste of time even if TK Maxx bombs Grin

It's great for towels etc, we get all ours from there.
Christy bath mats and Hugo boss hand towels was our last purchases all for such a good price!

TonTonMacoute · 09/02/2019 11:46

Oh god, yes!

TonTonMacoute · 09/02/2019 11:47

Mind you, if you want something special they never have one you like. If you go in just to browse you will spend a fortune!

LikeACowsOpinion · 09/02/2019 11:54

I can see myself going in for towels and coming out with everything but.

Must.. restrain.. self...

I will let you all know how I get on Grin

I bought a North Face coat in TK Maxx last month for £49 and the same one is on their website for £200. They had labelled it at size 18 and I am size 12 - looked at it and thought there was no way it's an 18 and worth a try. You need patience and time to browse for TK Maxx.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 09/02/2019 12:07

I buy workout leggings and tops from there. Elle, Skechers, Pineapple. There’s tat, so you have to search.

Ollivander84 · 09/02/2019 12:07

Beauty stuff can be decent. Take your phone and google it if you're not sure Wink
If you like makeup then they have had becca stuff in recently, drunk elephant skincare, loads of lovely soaps.
The by nature lemongrass handwash (brown pump bottle) is so lovely that the plumber took a photo Grin to buy some for himself
Korres shower gel, giant bottles of nature love haircare, yes to range skin/hair
Bedding is good, I got a super king size DKNY set for about £25

Aragog · 09/02/2019 12:14

At the moment TK Maxx are selling all the RND t shirts and other items.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 09/02/2019 12:58

I agree that it's not as good as it was. Years ago you could get nice quirky stuff - ornaments, rugs - just seems very blingy now and loads seems to be made in China to sell expressly in TKmax.

IndigoSpritz · 09/02/2019 13:17

TK Maxx is good for quality glassware at very reasonable prices. A lot of it is Dartington crystal. Most of my glasses over the last decade or so have come from TKM.

My husband got an amazing coat, can't remember the name off the top of my head, but Canadian brand, very very well made, brilliantly warm. It cost a third of what it currently sold on the website which was £££. Very pleased.

I've bought really quirky bits of stationery, think watermelon tape dispenser, kawaii stamp set, construction toy set with carry handle, things I've bought and will give as presents for DC this year.

My favourite mug was bought from there. Large shape, hand painted, ethical hippie type company - which is right up my street of you know me. The only one there, like it was made only for me. I use it everyday. Love that.

Oh and a very nice heavyweight cotton sofa blanket in cream with green, red, yellow markings. It feels beautiful and looks lovely, again, only one there.

I've not had too much success with clothes, unfortunately, I fare much better in the homewares section. But then again I usually buy clothing 2nd hand eBay and if money allows ethically traded if I can afford it.

I love the rummaging, though. Smile

ABigBraclet · 09/02/2019 15:24

Their beauty section always looks enticing. The large bars of soap - beautiful. I don't wear makeup though as i look ridiculous in it, but I like to browse the shelves.

Dd is starting to get into beauty items. The last time we were having a look around she wanted an eye lash curler, sleep mask, nail cutical thingy, and creams. If she saves enough, I'll take her back.

Tavannach · 09/02/2019 15:26

Skincare is always worth a browse.

EssentialHummus · 09/02/2019 15:35

I occasionally find high-end children's wear in there (Mini Rodini, TATB) but there is a lot of dross. Go in with a browsing mindset.

sagradafamiliar · 09/02/2019 15:41

I recently got a Rodial serum for 9.99 which was sold on their website for £180. I sometimes get my favourite Nuxe skincare for less as well. Have had some Allsaints and the Kooples clothing. I like the stationary, books and bakeware also!

Jassyjac · 09/02/2019 15:47

You either need loads of money or have will power of steel not to spend.

Unfortunately for me, I have neither Grin

It's amazing.

Thesearmsofmine · 09/02/2019 15:47

I love TKMaxx for homewards, children’s clothes, gifty bits and toys. Sometimes beauty too. I don’t go in specifically designer stuff just to get bits that are a bit different from the rest of the high street.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 09/02/2019 15:52

Go with an open mind but a critical eye. As above don't pay any attention to the RRP on the ticket, just the actual price and if you a. need or really want the item and b. think it's worth that £.

Branches vary and stock varies day to day. Last summer I got three pairs of sandals for what I was happy to pay for just one pair.

ABigBraclet · 09/02/2019 16:16

sagradafamiliar
Would you mind advising an old bag like me on which skin care products to look out for..? Eye creams, serums, anything like that as it sounds like you know your stuff. Flowers

vroc81 · 09/02/2019 16:27

It’s also worth bearing in mind that clearance is done on time in shop so yes they’ll be the broken bits but they’ll also be the things that haven’t sold at a higher price.. I’ve got some bargains in the clearance section..
