Apologies if there’s a thread on this already. I did check but the search function on here is hopeless. MP Christopher Chope strikes again by blocking an anti-FGM bill. There are no words... Confused

No words indeed. The man makes my skin crawl.

There’s a thread in AIBU. Interestingly in there he apparently only votes against private member bills which can send a person to jail. He believes these bills should (rightly I think) be fully brought to the attention of and debated by parliament.

For info he voted for the upskirting law when it was fully debated in parliament once he’s stopped the PMB. The FGM bill will be fully debated in parliament in March, will be interesting to see how he votes then (and if the media as widely reports that).

He says thats what he does YourDaughter, but in reality what he does is not interfere with his mates bills and even puts his own up, he just (by huge coincidence im sure) objects and finds his supposed principals when its womens rights being brought up.

People still voting for this, in 2019.

YourDaughter · 08/02/2019 21:11

But do the bills he has let by put people in jail?

YourDaughter · 08/02/2019 21:12

Not disagreeing, would just be interesting to see a list of what he has ‘let through’ and what he has stopped rather than ‘who proposed it’.

Here’s a list collated by ITV.

In July 2017, Chope and Peter Bone, the Conservative MP for Wellingborough, tabled 73 bills between them, of which 47 were placed by Chope. In order to be at the front of the queue to table the bills, the pair had camped in the Palace of Westminster for three days. Chope's bills included legislation to privatise the BBC and Channel 4, limit the interest rate chargeable on student loan debt (and forgive it in certain circumstances), reduce stamp duty, and decriminalise TV licence-dodging. Because of the number of slots for bills they took, Chope and Bone were criticised for their actions.

Gaze in wonderment at his voting record.
