Picking (skin)

Anyone else pick their face or whatever and can't stop?

I've got a chronic skin condition but I don't help matters by all the picking either.

I'm addicted and can't stop. I sometimes don't notice I'm doing it. I'm always scratching my head...... 🤕

While I hit the preview button for this thread I started absentmindedly picking skin off my nose.

Disgusting!

Yes... it's called dermatillomania. My legs are horribly scarred from skin picking. It started with hair pulling (trichotillomania) and it's always worst when my anxiety is high :(

First thing I do when I wake up is feel about my face for bits of dried skin.

Wtf is wrong with me?

It's an impulse control disorder - there is nothing wrong with you, you can't help it!

There is lots you can do to alleviate the urge to pull/pick but I am yet to find the holy grail

The Guardian covered this last week

There was an article in Guardian last week about this very thing.

Fingers for me. I don’t bite my nails, haven’t done so for years, but I can peel the skin off my fingertips in layers every few days.
