I've got a lovely relatively new friend. She has introduced me to the joys of gin and tonic and she bought me one of those large gin glasses as a gift which was lovely of her.

She's coming round tonight and said she'll be bringing her bottle of gin with her.

The problem is which glasses to use. I have the one glass she got me and just wine glasses and tumblers.

Do I use the special glass and give hers in a wine glass/ tumbler? Or give her the special glass as she is the guest.

Or not use it at all? I don't want to offend her!

Ask her which glass she would prefer?

Can you pop to a supermarket and buy a pack of 4....if she's bringing Gin I expect she'll think you have some.

I'm not fussed which glass it comes in by the way......

I'd give her the big glass. I think they're great if you're doing more extravagant mixed gins with fruit etc, and you can fit a hell of a lot of ice & slices in which I really like in my g & ts.

Otherwise I like to use those big milkshake type glasses you can get from Ikea for 50p. A long strong G & T with lots of ice is my preference. As long as your tumblers are big enough, use one of them.

Or, nip out to the supermarket, get some nice big tumblers, still give her the glass she got for you as I think she thinks they are preferable too.

Don't buy new glasses. Jeez. Give her the big glass. Give her any glass. If she is a decent person she won't mind in the least.

Irrelevant to your question. And I'm not even a gin drinker buuuuut....

...I was watching Eat Well for Less last night, where bar staff blind taste tested various tonics, from high end to ultra cheapo. The two ultra cheapos came out on top. Aldi's was in 1st place and Morrison's own brand in 2nd. Just in case that's helpful to anyone!

Any chance you can get to an Ikea?

Big gin glasses for £1.75

Or I like mine in this wine glass because I like a shorter drink where I can taste the gin.

Thanks for the EWFL tip buba. I'll look out for that. I get Waitrose Essential tonic, but it's a trek for me, so it would be nice to get an alternative from a mainstream supermarket, because I avoid Schweppes cos of the sweetners.

Aldi blue topaz gin tastes almost exactly the same as Bombay sapphire

ChandelierSail · 08/02/2019 15:53

Thanks. No I haven't got time to go out to the shops before she gets here. But I'm going to get some ASAP so this doesn't happen again.

She's lovely so I'm sure she won't mind but being a new friend I wasn't sure what she'd think.

@Bubastes yes I saw that and will definitely give the Aldi one a go.
