Anyone else having a “cleaning and tidying” day?

Notcontent · 08/02/2019 13:37

I am usually at work on Fridays but at home today, so doing lots of cleaning and tidying. Oh, how exciting!

I am fortunate that I have a cleaner who helps me keep on top of stuff, but she is away at the moment, and in any case, there are so many jobs that can’t really be delegated (unless you have a butler and a housekeeper!).

So today’s jobs have been: washing, putting away a whole stack of dry washing, cleaning the kitchen, sorting through lots of random stacks of paper in various rooms, giving the bathroom a quick clean, dealing with all the extremely muddy shoes...

My house is pretty small, so looks dreadful quite quickly.

Anyone else been shy today?

Friday Is my usual cleaning day . My day off work and dd2 at nursery for 3 hours in morning . Dusted everywhere and hoovered as well as hanging washing away etc . They are out with their dad later so going to clean bathrooms .

I usually clean and tidy on Fridays so everything is fresh for the weekend....but I have a 8week puppy asleep on my lap, we are all totally smitten. Puppy area is spotless the rest of the house however....

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 08/02/2019 13:48

It’s wet and windy, so I may as well be indoors sorting stuff out. Dusting, vacuuming and kitchen have been done. I’m about to tackle the bathrooms. Boring, but necessary.

Last couple of days I've been trialing the organised mum method. Feels like mammoth cleaning compared to the nothing that I usually do. I'm doing the hallway, stairs and landing today

AllGoodDogs · 08/02/2019 13:50

I try and follow the organised mum method of doing a room a day, but I don't always get it all done if I have a busy week. Friday is my usual day off work so I use it to catch up. I've done the kitchen and bedrooms and caught up with washing today, hoovered throughout and mopped the kitchen and hall.

Emelene · 08/02/2019 13:53

I was going to but my 12 week old had just had her jabs so we are having a cuddle and nap day instead. Grin

Notcontent · 08/02/2019 14:04

The organised mum method sounds good but it wouldn’t work for me as there are days when I have no time to do anything beyond a quick tidy of the kitchen.

But yes, it is all so necessary... I suppose humankind has always had these sorts of jobs to get on with.

I don't. I may try it out.

Thesuzle · 08/02/2019 14:08

GOD yes hello OP
Front room being tarted up next Wednesday so everything is coming out. Ive been doing it for days, have told other family members to remove their s... or i’ll give it all to charity
The sink meanwhile is forever covered with stuff. No one wants to put away

Passthecake30 · 08/02/2019 22:31

You sound like you really enjoyed yourself... and it sounds like my idea of hell! I prefer to do a little bit of housework every day.

itssquidstella · 08/02/2019 22:39

I deliberately forwent the pub this evening after work so that I could come home and clean. I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, did a load of washing and changed the bed. So satisfying!

Wendywoo1000 · 09/02/2019 07:29

Wednesday was my cleaning day as it was my day off, now i work in the morning i tend to come hone a d watch 2 hours of Silent Witness🤨.

So im alone today (well teen daughter in bed) so after popping into town with CVs in hand to find her a job, im gonna have a bathroom blast, fridge clean and dry my clothes in the dryer as i hate having them on radiators

I’m having one today. Kind of under duress as my friend is coming to stay for a couple of nights at the beginning of the week. Flat looks tidy as everything is mostly hidden in the spare room which now needs to be tidied, so she has somewhere to sleep. I put all the clean and dry washing away, including sheets and towels (about 2 weeks worth). Just got a shredder from Argos so am about to start on my box of old bills, expired warranties etc, that is overflowing. Will also tidy and clean out the fridge and bathroom. I don’t think I’m a total pig but there is something about having a visitor that makes me want to make the place spotless!

OrganicPlanet did you join just to push your expensive products? Four posts with same link just this morning. Please at least credit us Mumsnetters with intelligence to spot unpaid marketing. Reported.

This made me laugh this week.

Anyone else having a “cleaning and tidying” day?

So im alone today (well teen daughter in bed) so after popping into town with CVs in hand to find her a job

So how does that work if she can't even be bothered to take her own cv into town?
Cue: Drip-feed: she worked a 24 hour voluntary shift for xxx heartstrings charity so she needed her sleep

Every Saturday is clean bathroom, kitchen, dust, hoover.

Laundry done through the week as well as any additional kitchen cleaning.

Then some Saturday will have windows added and other cleaning e.g. Today was cleaning chairs properly, oven and inside of fridge.

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/02/2019 14:11

I’m doing The Big Clean today. It’s not too terrible because I live alone and am not in very often - but I have an l-shaped hallway and tend to use the bit of it I don’t walk through to dump stuff in. After a couple of weeks of getting up early and getting home late it turns into a big sordid pile of unwashed gym kit, shoes, fancy dress clothing, unopened post, bags of bits etc. Am tackling that, plus the mountain of clean laundry which I take off the dryer and dump on the bedroom chair when I can’t be bothered to put it all away 🙂

Chocolateandabook2019 · 09/02/2019 14:19

Friday is my cleaning day, or a Thursday afternoon depending on which day dh is working.

It was yesterday this week, so I got everything done.
Upstairs and downstairs cleaned, and bed linen and towels washed, dried and stored away.

So today, Saturday, is payback time.

I have a cup of tea, apple pie and a book, plus my candles burning in the background.

Oh and some Michael Jackson playing away courtesy of Amazon music unlimited. I’m not a fan, I just fancied a change.

Wendywoo1000 · 09/02/2019 14:22

anneproth since when do you need an explanation?

JellyTeapot · 09/02/2019 14:37

ComtesseDeSpair how many fancy dress costumes do you usually accrue in your hallway over a couple of weeks? Grin

I'm tackling DS1's pit of despair. So much Lego. And baby toys he refuses to part with. And random bits of crap that he needs to keep so he can admire them. Going to need BrewBrewBrew

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/02/2019 14:44

@JellyTeapot Grin It’s less weird than it sounds - I go to “alternative” club nights, I don’t just wear fancy dress to the supermarket or anything!

Lego though, I feel your pain. My goddaughter once came to stay and brought a vat of the stuff with her. I was still stepping on bits a week after she left.

Kenny33 · 09/02/2019 15:07

ComtesseDeSpair
Sounds like my spare room (apart from the fancy dress), 3 hours later and I’m done! Well deserved tea and feet up for a bit now.
