First time pregnancy, safe nasal decongestant?

Hi,

This is my first pregnancy, I am only 6weeks in. I suffer from sinusitis and wondering if there are any safe decongestants I can use during pregnancy? I don’t see my doc until next week but I am so blocked up right now.
Thank you

Off the top of my head, I don't think you should use any decongestants. Use the saline nasal sprays.

Try for a saline nose spray. No drugs in that and will help a bit... or olbas oil on a hanky. That works wonders and no threat to the baby . 🌷🌷

Head over a bowl of steaming water ?

Hello op, I'm not able to use over the counter decongestants because of medication I take for high blood pressure. I have sinusitis too and I've found a Neti pot is great, google it. It sounds weird but it has really worked for me and also nasal sprays that have sea water in them.
Olbas oil is good, I put it on a hanky and just inhale it. I use Vick just under my nostrils a lot and that helps.
I really hope you are able to find something that helps. Best of luck

Cross post there and the suggestion of Sterimar is good I used it after seeing recommended on her and it works

here not her

Steam. You have to consult a doctor before using vicks. Baby vicks should be fine though I'd have thought.

Ask your pharmacist! Please don't waste a gp appointment on this unless you have other stuff to discuss. Pharmacists are incredibly well trained in this, and you don't need to book an appointment either.

I recommend saline spray though OP- nothing dodgy chemical-wise and great for my sinusitis

Ask a Pharmacist, or your Midwife.
From what I remember looking up at Christmas, Olbas Oil is not 'allowed' now.
The Vicks nasal inhalers (the solid stuff inside a plastic tube), may be ok.
But check with a professional!

OP i had terrible sinusitis in my last pg and the MW said nothing except saltwater spray..... which actually worked!

Apparently use of decongestants before a certain gestation has been linked to certain problems with the foetus, cannot remember what.

I was v sceptical but the saltwater stuff worked!
And don't ask a pharmacist, they always just say to take nothing when pg. If you are really unsure, a MW.

Thank you all very much. Going to start with saline spray if I can find it. Hopefully that helps. X
