Looking for an Ikea soft bodied doll for bf group

A soft-bodied IKEA doll?
They are ideal to demonstrate positioning for breastfeeding but have been discontinued. A group of local mums (including me) are setting up a new BF support group and we are trying to track some down that won't cost us a fortune. Can anyone help?

Lots on eBay, appx £4.99

Myusernameismud · 07/02/2019 21:30

Theoriginal this isn't a crowd funding request though!

OP I can't help but maybe ask @mnhq if they'll edit the title, because it does sound like a crowd funding link! Maybe try 'ISO IKEA dolls, can anyone help?'

Or 'ISO dolls for breastfeeding group' which is more click friendly Smile

Thanks for the helpful comments (but not the narky one, hope it made you feel big and clever TheOriginalLEM).
I just wondered if anyone had a spare one, no longer needed. We've been watching the ebay listings but with postage etc the cost is too great for us (we have a shoe string budget of some charitable grants, the majority of which has been used to fund our training costs). We've managed to buy one second hand but need about three more.

and what does ISO mean?

In Search Of

NewAndImprovedNorks · 07/02/2019 22:19

‘In search of’

AudTheDeepMinded · 07/02/2019 22:21

Ahhhh, thanks! I didn't think it meant International Standards Organisation, which is the best I could come up with!

You can't afford twenty odd quid on some dolls from eBay You? Between you?

FadedRed · 07/02/2019 22:23

If you know any knitters, they might be able to make you a suitable substitute.

AudTheDeepMinded · 07/02/2019 22:32

Bluntness we are also in the process of acquiring other resources for this group, as well as needing money for annual insurance, refresher training, printing of leaflets and posters, travel costs etc. We are all doing this voluntarily to replace a service previously provided by a local Children's Centre.
I would love to be able to chuck my own money as well as time at it but do have a family of my own to support. But thank you for your helpful comment.

fadedred, we do have some lovely knitters busily knitting us some boobs, so that is an idea. Thank you.

Having just posted a parcel, I'd suspect it will cost close on the same price to get people to post them to you. Obviously you'd be offering postage as they'd be donating them as a favour, and I think you might find the ebay ones (assuming P&P is free) is as cheap.

purpleelk · 08/02/2019 00:02

You’re being a bit off with people, aren’t you? Especially as you’re asking people to pay to post them to you too.

Have you tried approaching Ikea themselves? They’d probably donate a discounted item to a charity.

purpleelk · 08/02/2019 00:03

Discontinued not discounted. Stupid autocorrect

IncrediblySadToo · 08/02/2019 00:12

Blimey...some of you are making Victor Meldrew look positively chirpy!

Aud it’s a lovely thing you’re doing 🌷. Unfortunately I can’t help with the dolls, but a tweet to ikea might be a good idea.

I hope it all goes well.💐☕️

IWantMyHatBack · 08/02/2019 00:27

What a bunch of miserable sods on this thread.

OP. I'd try posting again in the morning with a more specific title, you might have more luck.

Crowdfunding? Oh fgs LEM.

babydreamer1 · 08/02/2019 00:58

OP the 2 on eBay are both £4.99 and are from the same seller. Send them a message and see if you could get the price/postage reduced for purchasing both. If not, do a little cake sale or similar at your local mum and baby groups to raise some cash, ours would happily buy a cake or 2, especially for a cause like breastfeeding, there's so little support. I think what you're doing is fantastic.

AudTheDeepMinded · 08/02/2019 09:15

purpleelk would love to know where I ask people to pay postage?

Thanks for ebay tip off others, 4.99 is cheapest we have seen by far.

HearMeSnore · 08/02/2019 09:26

Have you looked on Facebook marketplace? I had a quick glance and there are several for sale at bargain prices (2 for £5 in one case). Worth a check if any are local to you?

Also check your local Freecycle.

L0kiWh0 · 08/02/2019 09:29

I think I have 2 in the loft. I’ll nag dp when he gets home to go and have a search - if he finds them, they’re yours (might be a bit tatty though Blush)

OhDearHowSadNeverMind · 08/02/2019 09:31

Shitty snarky comment LEM. Hope you feel super pleased with yourself now Hmm

AudTheDeepMinded · 08/02/2019 16:02

HearMeSnore Brillaint, thanks! Have messaged lady.

L0kiWh0 You are a superstar!
At this rate we will definitely be sorted for a while. If anyone does end up sending us any I am more than happy to provide specific details of our group so you can see we are valid! Also happy to provide postage costs (obviously).
