This could be seen as a tread about a thread but it's really a thread about many threads!
I posted the other day about my (young) adult DD, 20 years old and still in Uni. I thought I was quite clear that I was mulling the situation over in my head and had no intention of even offering an opinion, not to mind telling her what to do. About 80% of the posts were by people telling me to butt out, that she is an adult and it was none of my business. This was not in AIBU by the way!
At the time I thought I just wasn't very good at explaining myself but since then reading other threads all over the site there really seems to be a tendency to put people who post down, telling them they're too sensitive, nosy, whatever.
The last thing I want is "hugs and huns" on the site. What I do like genuinely is other peoples opinions but surely it's possible to express opinions, even differing opinions, without being dismissive. And surely it's possible, if you are going to go to the trouble of writing a response to a post, to take a few seconds to actually try and see the story from the posters point of view and not just pile on to tell them how ridiculous they are being?
