My 8 year old son is so unhappy after school every day.

Not sure exactly when this all started, a few months ago I would guess. My son has been so happy at school up until now, year3. He has his best friend and is very very attached. However his best friend seems to be getting more and more friendly with one of the other boys, always having sleepovers etc and my son just can’t handle it, he’s coming home from school crying because he feels so left out. He’s now saying he hates school. Everyone makes him feel sad, I feel like there might be a bit more to it but he’s not saying much else. Going to talk to the teacher in the morning but does anyone have any advice? I’ve tried suggesting that he finds someone else to play with if he feels so sad after playing with the other boys but that just upsets him more

Do you arrange playdates with his friend? The other option is to enrol DS in clubs so he has a friendship group outside school too.

He has play dates with his friend, we are even taking him away for the weekend with us. He’s been going to scouts since he was 5 which gave him lots of confidence but he’s definitely not himself now.

This happened to my son when he was 6, he was so sad. His best friend decided he wanted variety and only to play with my son sometimes. My son just didn't know what to do with this - he had no idea how to process when it was or wasn't his turn to play with his previously best friend.

It really was awful and I was very relieved when the friend went to another school. If I were you I would talk to the teacher asap and see what she can suggest as this is probably an extremely common problem.
