Do you shower twice a day on your period?

AbsentmindedWoman · 06/02/2019 21:29

In order to feel clean and relaxed, I really need to shower before leaving the house and when I come home, when I'm on.

Do most people do similar?

Went to see my Dr about it as its only been this bad since having DC and he basically said tough shit.

Same experience about lack of action, Ive found it impossible to get my doctor to take it seriously, I have ridiculous flooding and incredibly long periods Hmm its crap.

theworldistoosmall · 07/02/2019 01:06

Yes at least twice some days.
I have horrific heavy periods. I cannot always wear internal stuff because it gets pushed out, or I get sore from the very frequent changes. My current 'cycle' has been ongoing since 16th December.
They are extremely painful (on oramorph, paracetamol and dihydrocodeine) and I sweat loads.

FamilyReferee I manage by jumping in the shower with a pad between my legs. Then remove. Shower. Quick dry. A fresh pad between legs and get out. Or insert a new tampon if I can use them that day. Quickly dry. Fresh pads.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter see a different gp. I flood within 2 hours. I'm under gynae care now and on various meds to slow the flow whilst I wait for surgery.

Heavy bleeders also need their Iron levels checked. Even with iron tablets, no drinking tea, eating iron-rich foods with vit c, I require blood transfusions every 2 weeks max.

INeedToGetHealthy · 07/02/2019 01:26

@FamilyReferee. Exactly the same for me too.

evenbetter · 07/02/2019 01:26

Nope. I take the pill in a way that I now opt out of the hormone withdrawal bleed you get, but when I got periods they were agony, heavy and clot laden but showering twice a day would have been so much effort and wasteful. Pads are stinking because the tissue starts to smell once it meets air, tampons or cups negate this issue and wipes take care of the rest.

PennyandVince · 07/02/2019 01:32

yes but then I don't shower for the rest of the month Grin

MrWolfknowsthetime · 07/02/2019 01:35

Only if it's been a messy one. But I've hit the hot flush stage of life now, and really need an extra shower in the evening.

StarlightLady · 07/02/2019 06:00

Absolutely. Regardless of whether or not It’s during a period, I have a shower before work in the morning and a shower or bath when I get in after work. At the start of a (heavy) period before bed as well.

Aside from periods, I wouldn’t feel comfortable having sex later in the day, evening or night, if I had only had a shower first thing in the morning.

borntobequiet · 07/02/2019 06:04

This is the beauty of bidets.
Though the suggestion that women showering twice daily when on their period will cause massive water shortages is a bit bonkers.

DuploRelatedInjury · 07/02/2019 07:06

No. My skin would be like sandpaper if I showered twice a day.

Boxlikeahare · 07/02/2019 07:14

Yes I do, hideously heavy periods and like a PP I see a gynaecologist and have the odd transfusion.

But it isn’t just about the period blood. The sweating is horrendous, when I walk to/from work I wear a light waterproof coat unzipped even if it is freezing and when I get there I am absolutely dripping with sweat, my face, my body, and everywhere else.

Grim all round.

Oblomov19 · 07/02/2019 07:18

No. Never.
You sound anxious!!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/02/2019 09:43

Yes but I bathe twice a day when I'm not on my period. Although I do like to feel cleaner when I'm on so I think it's more important.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 09:54

Just lately I've been flooding sad at work , so when I come home I have a bath, after having a shower before work

That’s even more gross than not washing at all Envy not envy

OP I usually shower in the morning, but if I have a heavy flow and have leaked I have a quick shower in the evening too.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 09:57

oblo

What’s anxious about having an extra wash Confused

It’s ok to have a second shower. It’s also ok not to. No need to try and slap a diagnosis on someone because they don’t do things the same as you.

Parthenope · 07/02/2019 10:09

Jesus, can we all grow up a bit and step with the juvenile 'eww, you're so gross for showering/not showing/bathing/not bathing' stuff? Hmm

Telling another woman in the internet that you think her own decisions about her personal hygiene when she has her period are disgusting is playground stuff.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 10:13

It’s a discussion about showering/not showering/bathing/not bathing, in relation to blood so in this instance I don’t think giving an opinion, on said washing, is juvenile.

Telling another woman in the internet that you think her own decisions about her personal hygiene when she has her period are disgusting is playground stuff.

It’s really not. It’s a discussion about personal hygiene and periods. The comment was within the remit of the topic.

MancaroniCheese · 07/02/2019 10:15

As I’ve got older my periods have got more unpredictable with flooding regularly even with a mooncup. It gets messy so I need to shower more often.

JoeElliotsMullet · 07/02/2019 10:27

No, sometimes I can barely stand up straight when I'm on.
If I need to, I'll wash with warm water poured from a jug which is quite soothing on trembly lady bits. We don't have a bidet.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 07/02/2019 10:33

I wash "pits and bits" if needed over the basin, and don't shower every day unless really sweaty or hair greasy.

This is the reason when we re-do our bathrooms I really, really, want to fit in a bidet. The continent have got it so sorted. Three girls in this household, so it would be such a bonus.

Dyingforchocolate · 07/02/2019 12:29

Mummylife2018 why would I need help for showering twice a day?
I have a shower each morning to wake me up & clean if I feel sweaty from the night before. Have a shower each night after work/excersise. I don't really see the issue other than it's maybe not great using so much water but I would rather shower twice a day than feel unclean!

How do you wash bits over a sink? Confused

theworldistoosmall · 07/02/2019 21:40

Oblomov19 why is anyone anxious when they want to wash off blood and sweat from their bodies? I have a fever for around 3 weeks, then a week or two when I'm fine. At least having a clean body helps me to feel slightly better.

And yes sometimes I will have a warm bath. It's recommended to help with period pains.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 08/02/2019 14:56

Mommaof2x

Not by balancing on the edge I assure you !! Grin
A soapy hand and a flannel generally goes the job.

AngelaStorm73 · 08/02/2019 16:07

I shower off after a bath anyway

So morning shower
Bedtime bath, shower off quickly
Or just a quick shower

The bath is therapeutic not to get clean
It takes me 3 minutes to shower so not much water

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 08/02/2019 16:26

No. I shower probs every 2 days usually and then in the day/days between if I feel a bit more messy than normal.
