Do you think DD's curls are here to stay or will these drop out?

This is what DD's hair goes like if I let it air dry. It's a bit messy but I love her little curls, they are such a part of her and I hope they stay. What do you think? Are these likely to disappear when her hair grows longer/gets cut?

Thay are fab! I PAY to get those, regularly.
Can't answer re staying but hope so.

dd had beautiful ringlets until she was about 4 : ( and now she has thick thick straight hair.

DS was a mass of blonde curls at- he now has black hair, with the odd kink in it (aged 7)

MeetOnTheledge · 06/02/2019 21:25

My DD's hair was like that as a toddler but once it was cut that was it, straight hair. Which is odd as everyone in both our families has wavy or curly hair. I was a bit sad about it, but her hair is waist length and stunning now.

It's very straight on top, if that makes sense but underneath and at the bottom is where all the curls are. I'm scared to ever cut her hair incase it cuts them out!

Hate to say it but don't think they will stay.
All four of mine had them but they dropped out by about 5.
However... weirdly two of them regained their curls virtually overnight at puberty!!! One is 24 how and has waist length hair that is wavy all over and ringlets round the front and my DS2 has a blonde afro if he lets it grow! His was poker straight from 3-11!!

daisydalrymple · 06/02/2019 21:47

Dd has beautiful ringlets up to about age 4, then they disappeared. She’s 9 now with waist length straight hair, but when it gets wet in the rain it goes wavy, and she still has the ringlet curls around her face when new hair grows. I do wonder how f it was shoulder length if we would maybe see the curls again.

CaraMelly · 06/02/2019 22:06

It's not looking good then by the sounds of things! If they do go, I'd love them to come back like they did for your kids stillmedusa 🙏🏼** I've never heard of that before!

My DD's is still just like this at 8. She wanted her hair bobbed in the summer and it got even curlier. Both DH and I do have slightly curly hair though.

Flippidy · 06/02/2019 22:16

My hair was like that as a toddler and remained that way until I was about 10. Now it's poker straight.

bruffin · 06/02/2019 22:18

Dd lost her toddler curls.
Mine have come back in my 50s Grin

Freddiepurrcury · 06/02/2019 22:25

Sadly I don’t think they will stay, most likely her hair will just have a wave- mine was the same. The only time curls seem to stay is when they have really tight ringlets.

Smellbellina · 06/02/2019 22:38

Can depend how you cut it, DD is 6 and still has ringlets but we never cut above a curl so trims are done in very small stages. Her hair is very long now!

AntheaGreenfern · 06/02/2019 22:40

Yes to the waves returning at puberty!

What's that about?

PrismGuile · 06/02/2019 22:49

Sadly, mine were much tighter than that and dropped out around 13 yo... hopefully doesn't happen to your little-y

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 06/02/2019 23:11

Sorry, I'm another one who's DD had beautiful curls, and I never brushed her hair because I loved them so much.

They went at about 6 (not before various parents had commented on her unbrushed hair)

StillMedusa · 07/02/2019 00:03

DS2's hair went from this- to this between 10 and 11 years of age.... totally weird!!! He is now an adult and it's short but still curly on top!

Do you think DD's curls are here to stay or will these drop out?

(I should add he's 7 and 12 in the photos but you get the idea... it literally seemed to curl overnight!)

HerRoyalNotness · 07/02/2019 00:09

Amazing hair medusa

DS2 had golden hair and curls at 2,
Disappeared when he had his hair cut. He’s now 8 and growing his hair again and it is curling again at the bottom. We variously havewaby and straight hair in our families so it could go either way. My mother’s hair went from straight to tight curls I’m her 50s and mine is definitely wavy these days where it’s used to be straight

Osirus · 07/02/2019 00:10

Mine were like that and if I let my hair air dry I still have some curls.

My toddler DD’s hair is similar except she has no straight hair at all; her head is like a ball of fluffy ringlets. I’m not sure if I want my DD’s hair to stay like it; I hated my hair as a child (and still do sometimes - it’s the candy floss frizz!).
