Blue tinge around mouth

Hi,
Posting for some advice.
I've been noticing for the last few evenings that ds (8) has a definite blue/grey tinge around his mouth. Also his top lip looks a bit purple.
I haven't noticed it in the day but to be honest he's at school for most of it and then the evenings are busy..
When i first noticed it I thought it was shadow but after seeing it again tonight it definitely isn't.

I'm worrying a bit...
Just to add I will definitely be getting an appointment with the GP tomorrow (hopefully...my docs are a nightmare for getting in to see).

Any ideas of what it could be?

Does your son have asthma? Or related illnesses? I have asthma and i would go straight to A&E wit h blue lips

Meant to say, also. Does he have, what I always think of, as a "gulp" in his chest or throat? Thats also a sign for me

Busymummy16 · 06/02/2019 20:25

Does he have a cough? My dd has bronchiolitis recently and prior to diagnosis her lips had tinge of blue and was told to go to A&E by out of hours GP. She was diagnosed then in A&E and had to wait for her oxygen level to improve as was a little down but not enough to need oxygen. Hope you get to the bottom of it ASAP and your ds feels better soon xx

No, no asthma or any related breathing problems.
We will definitely be going to docs tomorrow though.

I would phone 111 now. Blue tinge suggests not enough oxygen in his blood for some reason, and I don’t think that’s a ‘wait until tomorrow’ job.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 06/02/2019 20:28

He has had a cough recently but everyone seems to have something right now.
He's also been over tired, which I've put down to being at school/winter bugs etc.

Thanks everyone. Now phoning 111.

He needs to see a doctor now. My kids have suffered with bronchiolitis (caused by a cold virus) and blue lips is one of the signs that got us sent straight to A&E.

MashedSpud · 06/02/2019 20:31

I also agree with 111. I don’t want to worry you but my childhood friend had that as well as blueish fingers and knees and hers was a heart issue.

Romanov · 06/02/2019 20:31

ok - i vaguely remember this from my first aid course (a million years ago)

www.nhs.uk/conditions/blue-skin-or-lips-cyanosis/.

From what you say, its most likely the second one, but keep an eye out for the first one, if in doubt, or any trouble breathing, go to A&E

Blue skin or lips need to be checked urgently in hospital. See a GP if you have blue fingers or toes.

Call 999 or go to A&E if you or your child's:
lips, tongue, face or skin suddenly turn blue/grey (or gums and round the eyes in darker skin)
breathing becomes difficult
chest hurts
These are signs of a serious medical problem.

See a GP if you or your child's:
fingers, toes, hands or feet gradually turn blue
This could be the sign of a blood circulation problem.

Yes I would phone 111. Let us know how it goes.

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/02/2019 20:31

Glad you are calling 111

Arwenmumof4 · 06/02/2019 20:32

I would call 111. They will ask lots of questions and then arrange for you to go and see a dr either at a local minor injury unit or A&E. If he has asthma’s maybe make sure he is inhaling his ventalin properly... but could it be biro ink from school?
If he has a cough or tight chest I would def take him straight into hospital

TeddyIsaHe · 07/02/2019 06:15

Hope your ds is ok op

lostlalaloopsy · 07/02/2019 06:16

I hope everything is ok with your son OP.

NeverTwerkNaked · 08/02/2019 15:54
