I would be so happy as he's been so ill but bizarrely, I can't be sure as there is a beard involved!

Yes it's him looking fit and well with beard

Duckshead · 06/02/2019 18:08

Oh that's made my day!

I'm loving the beard. It makes him look very distinguished.

Bryjam · 06/02/2019 18:30

Well he is not fit and well, he has terminal cancer.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 06/02/2019 18:32

Well, you're a lovely ray of sunshine.

Bryjam · 06/02/2019 18:35

Sorry?

It's a fact? Not sure what's wrong with saying?

If I made it up or laughed about it fair enough, but I just posted the fact.

PortiaCastis · 06/02/2019 18:37

I typed looking fit and well, I'm well aware of his illness but at present he looks good so I'm saying so

Believability · 06/02/2019 18:38

Well he is not fit and well, he has terminal cancer

He does indeed but as he said on Twitter, the cancer is in a holding pattern and he’s working around treatment. He’s living with cancer and people with controlled incurable cancer can actually be pretty well.

And actually unless he has been given a prognosis of less than 6 months he’s not technically terminal, he has incurable but treatable cancer.

PS I agree He looks great, such an attractive man

Bryjam · 06/02/2019 18:39

I know portia

I just commented that he isn't. That's a fairly normal response to 'oh he looks well' when 'he' isn't well. Or so I thought.

Apologies to anyone who was offended by that. It was certainly never intended to be anything other than a factual comment.

TulipsAndClogsGalore · 06/02/2019 18:39

TBH bit shallow to say someone "looking fit and well" when he's been off screen for a year for treatment for stage 4 cancer. He clearly isn't well. Just like telling someone with brain damage " you look well". And yes, one of my family is braindamaged, you can't see it from the outside but comments like that are just so rubbish and frankly ignorant.

Justheretogiveaviewfrommyworld · 06/02/2019 18:44

Glad he's been able to come back. I love George!

LarkDescending · 06/02/2019 18:44

He’s had lots of lovely tweets welcoming him back on screen which was nice to see.

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 06/02/2019 18:46

I didn’t know that he was ill. I’m so sorry to hear that. He always comes across really well.

I have googled though and he’s the first ever British newsreader to have a beard. Who knew?

TokyoSushi · 06/02/2019 18:55

Yes, I think he's just doing it as and when he can, lovely to see him!

TonTonMacoute · 06/02/2019 18:59

I agree he looked good and I was pleased to see him back. It sends a very positive message about living with cancer I think.

PortiaCastis · 06/02/2019 18:59

Its not shallow to type what you see, I think he's looking good with the beard and is able to work and I wish him well

Hazeintheclouds · 06/02/2019 19:50

His cancer is in a “holding position”. Cancer is often a condition you can live with these days.
It is great to see him back.

Livpool · 06/02/2019 20:09

My DF has incurable cancer so I think is it good to see people in the public eye living with it.

And I don't think of my Dad as 'terminal'

Duckshead · 06/02/2019 21:26

Livpool it is very hard I know, I've experienced this with my mum. Flowers

I started the thread because I was so pleased to see him. Surprised but pleased.

Thanks Duckshead - yes I think it is really nice and hopefully lets people see that when you are in that position you have to carry on

RockyFlintstone · 06/02/2019 21:42

It is great to see people living with cancer in the public eye. Cancer, even stage 4 cancer, does not necessarily mean you are bald and grey looking and never get out of bed.

There are more and more people showing 'what cancer looks like' for example the 'You, Me and the Big C' girls. Deborah James has Stage 4 bowel cancer like George, and has often been out and about in thigh high boots and sequin dresses, and is trying to get on this year's Strictly!

Duckshead · 06/02/2019 21:46

Rocky they are fab aren't they!
