I'm away for work at the weekend in the lovely Harrogate, taking the family (DH and 2 kids) with me (they'll potter about while I'm at my conference). What is there to do for families while we're there please?

Valley Gardens is a lovely park and nearby RHS Harlow Carr is great too. Betty's is an institution, but it depends on how old/we'll behaved your children are. I went when mine were boisterous 5 and 2 year old and I didn't enjoy it, but love it now they're older.

Harlow carr garden. You can park for free by valley park, cross the road and walk through the woods to get to it. You pay to enter but it is very child focused

I LOVE Betty's (did you know you can get the cakes delivered to your door now?) but not sure I'd risk it with my 2yo and 5yo. The eldest would be ok but the 2yo is an arsehole spirited

Valley gardens is perfect for young children. They can just run around the Stray as well.

There are loads of good food options. I like Giannis Brio.

Bead is a jewellery making, art and craft boutique also home to the Bead Bar, a private and separate part of the shop where children aged 3+ can design and make jewellery, bookmarks and keyrings. There’s an enormous selection of beads to choose from. As well as jewellery making there’s a range of other crafts including wooden craft items and sun catchers which can be decorated with paint pens, glitter pens, gems, stickers etc.. The cheapest activity is £3 and you spend as long as you want there. They also serve drinks and snacks.

Harrogate Climbing Centre is a superb climbing and bouldering facility on Harrogate's Hornbeam Park for children aged 5+.

Knaresborough Pool is the local children's favourite with its hot water bubble pool and water flume.
