Used to have the when we were kids. Mum made a cheese sauce and put ham chopped up in and then rolled it up in a pancake. Top with grated cheese and grill.

Totally stodgetastic but yummy. Would go nice with a green salad.

I've also used pancakes to do like enchiladas with chicken and beans in.

Yes. Yum! Ham, mushroom, onion and Philadelphia cheese with chives melted in as a sauce.

Yeh! Bacon or ham with cheese is lush! I had this for breakfast most days when I went to Amsterdam. Didn’t cross my mind to do savoury before because I don’t like them sweet.

JingsMahBucket · 06/02/2019 13:44

Isn’t that just crêpes? Savoury crêpes are a known food in French and other cultures.

BaronessBomburst · 06/02/2019 13:48

Yes! The Dutch love savory pancakes!
Fry up onions, mushrooms, bacon, ham, whatever. Add the batter to the pan (it will be a bit thicker than a crepe). Once cooked, top with cheese and pop under the grill.

LadyR77 · 06/02/2019 13:49

Yes - I prefer them to the sweet versions!

Your favourite pancake batter recipes?

Mine: one cup plain flour, one cup double cream with the juice of half a lemon squeezed into it (to resemble buttermilk, which makes it lighter), one cup sparkling water, two eggs, pinch of salt.
Whisk eggs and flour, gradually add cream and sparkly water. Tastes even better after a night in the fridge.

CurlyMango · 06/02/2019 21:07

Yes yes yes

Galvantula · 06/02/2019 21:09

Yes definitely.

They're was a place near here that used to do one with smoked haddock in cheese sauce, it was awesome.

I think putting anything savoury in a pancake is abomination.
We have a national dish of some sort of mince in pancakes. I still remember the anger I felt as a kid about the ruined pancakes. 😀

TowerRingInferno · 06/02/2019 21:25

I could eat them if I had to but I’d rather not!

My pancakes have a dash of sugar in them and are served with a heap of blueberries, banana, other fruit (and maple syrup).

EatingBreadAndHoney · 06/02/2019 21:54

We had some delicious croquettes last night which were pancakes stuffed with Gouda, mushrooms and then breadcrumbed. I'm definitely buying them again!

Outedsochanged · 06/02/2019 21:57

There is a restaurant called My old Dutch which does good savory pancakes. We now make them at home a lot. Bacon, mushroom, veg and often a double of maple syrupGrin

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 06/02/2019 22:02

I love savoury pancakes, much more than sweet ones.

They need something fresh in them, otherwise I find them a bit stodgy, though. So yes to cheese and ham but then add spinach, or fresh tomato, or a dollop of ratatouille, something like that. Perfect breakfast!

AdaColeman · 06/02/2019 22:07

Yes, they are a cheap and filling meal, and great for using leftovers such as chicken and mushroom.
As mentioned, smoked haddock in a creamy sauce, or asparagus in a creamy sauce are good too.

AbsentmindedWoman · 06/02/2019 22:19

Oh god I would love one right now Grin

Bodicea · 07/02/2019 05:42

I think pancakes need wet ingredient to soak in to be at their best.
Ham cheese and loads of juicy pineapple works a treat.
