Help with bra size!

Last time I bought a bra I basically was flat chested... I have a 34C from Victoria Secrets that tends to be small cup size wise. I think I'm most likely a 34D or even E but not sure :/ I'm a dress size 8 if that helps at all!

If you're an 8 you should be in a 28 back (possibly you'd measure less but 28 is the smallest available back size). Not going to guess cup as you wouldn't believe me...

Have a look at boob or bust on Facebook for proper measuring advice!

JuneFromBethesda · 06/02/2019 09:25

randomsabreuse is right. No way are you a 34 back. I'm a tall, broad-shouldered size 14 and I'm a 32 back.

Needadoughnut · 06/02/2019 09:36

A lady at agent provocateur told me I was deluded to think that I was smaller than a 34 :/ Just went back and tried some old bras... 30C band wide fits ok (fig leaves) but I would think I'm at least 4 cups bigger (no idea what that is!) Calvin Klein 32B band size seems tighter and I would think that I need again at least 4 extra cups... So maybe I'm a 32E?

Your size is probably something like 28G/30FF. Forget everything you've been told about bras and how most women are 32B and all the slim and busty celebs are 34DD because they're not Smile.

Can you get to a Bravissimo or a proper independent lingerie shop? They'll just look at you and bring you a load of bras that are the right size. Well worth the money, but if you can't spend £30+ on a bra, try to get at least one, and then look for the same style online cheaper. Brastop can be good.

BarbaraofSevillle · 06/02/2019 10:08

What does your ribcage measure? I agree that your back size will not be 34 if you're a size 8. I'm a 14 to 16, but pear shaped and my rib measurement is 31. I wear a 32FF bra.

Needadoughnut · 06/02/2019 10:21

My ribcage is 30... There's no decent shops around here unfortunately. I always have to buy online which is why I'm trying to figure it out myself!

Have a look at boob or bust on Facebook
Or if you want a site that has only women, have a look at Fairy Boobmother.

I would never in a million years go to M&S for fitting, but I measure myself at home and buy M&S bras online once I know what size to get, because I like their t-shirt bras and they are very comfortable.

redyawn · 06/02/2019 11:14

I get my bras from a small specialist independent shop. (Try to go in sale). All mine fit and they are all completely different sizes. I have come to the conclusion that bra sizes are nothing more than a vague guide.

emeraldmoon · 06/02/2019 12:50

I've been struggling with this too, I use to be size 6 and wore 32a before my son, now I'm a size 8 and tend to wear 32c or 34b which fit nicely apart from my side boobs spilling out, just bought a 30d which fits on the boob but a little too tight around my ribs 😫 I think it's just trial and error and different shops or bra styles are different sizes.

Needadoughnut · 06/02/2019 13:06

I wanted to buy something for valentine's but I'm quite stuck !

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/02/2019 14:08

Why are you stuck?

Get a tape measure.
Follow the measuring advice you’ve been given here.
Buy the size your measuring suggests.

If you’re between sizes or want to try different styles that can vary in terms of fit, order a selection online from a big retailer like figleaves.com. Fast delivery and you can send it all back if no good.

Not rocket science.

DaisyDreaming · 06/02/2019 14:12

Join boob or bust and to the lady with side book spilling you probably need to swoop and scoop then re-measure

Needadoughnut · 06/02/2019 15:08

Don different websites give different measurements.... They range from 32E to 36D. And I know about the equivalences but still... Plus some places have DD others skip straight to E.

@amicissimma tbf I think part of the problem is that dress sizes have become bigger over time (different topic I know). My boobs look massive in comparison to when they were a B/C. my band on the other side definitely hasn't changed (or not much) that's why I think a 32 seems accurate, so I think I'd go for a DD/E.

Are you supposed to measure with a bra on or bra of? I've never got it!

LeakyBloodyTap · 06/02/2019 19:13

Measure with bra off.

I'm size 8 and 30D.
