School applications

Hi, have applied for a primary school place for my child for this September. Our local school is only a couple of hundred meters away but there is still quite a high chance we won’t get in as it’s only one form entry and a relatively densely populated area. The spaces to be filled have certain criteria I.e looked after children, siblings, church spaces, none of which we fulfill, we only fulfill the distance criteria to some degree depending on who lives closer. One of the loved teachers seemed to intimate they know how many spaces get allocated to each criteria and who has got in already, unless of course I have interpreted this incorrectly which is entirely possible! Smile. My question would the teachers at the school know by now who has got in and who hasn’t or is it solely the local authority who would know until the decisions are made public in april? Thank you.

Just giving this a bump.

The deadline to apply was only 2 weeks ago so they won’t know for ages yet!

There aren’t certain numbers for each criteria either if all the spaces are filled with the top criteria then they get the spaces

There’s no way they could know who has a place yet

They'll probably be able to work out how many sibling places are likely to be taken simply by knowing the children already at the school who have younger brothers and sisters who are reaching school age.
They won't have anything official though.

They'll also have an idea of who has asked for a faith reference too.

anniehm · 06/02/2019 16:49

Apart from siblings they won't know yet unless they do their own admissions. For instance I've done over 20 faith references this year, a record (and we did 12 baptisms in the 4 months prior to the deadline as well). It's a very small school so have a plan b.

It sounds like it’s a VA school so the governors may be able to have a good guess who got in. They would probably have sent a list of names to the LA.

But I don’t think l they can know for certain and even if they did they shouldn’t be mentioning anything!

Did it sound like your child has a space?

Marshmallowflump22 · 06/02/2019 16:56

Well it wasn’t a definite no that she wouldn’t get a place but that it was unlikely. It doesn’t matter too much as there are three or four good schools around here but i liked it the most and it is literally on the doorstep. We shall see. Only 5 places last year got offered to children who fulfilled the distance criteria.

Oh, okay.

Fingers crossed for you then. I suppose you can always stay on the waiting list for a place?
