Not my circus; not my monkeys.

Look after number 1, because no-one else will.

allways expect the unexpected .

Bluesheep8 · 07/02/2019 08:48

Interesting. I often think that it's the inspiration we take from the person who gave us these little pieces of wisdom as well as the wisdom itself iyswim. The same grandmother also bought me "The water babies" by Charles Kingsley I think. There is a character called Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby" in it and I was told that it was very important that I should remember her name. I do !

True dat! Grin

Don't sweat the small stuff!
It's not the end of the world.

(I like being in control so the above helps me to dial back rising stress levels).

This, too will pass..... love this MN mantra.

O4FS · 07/02/2019 13:41

“They need the most love when they deserve it the least” (mother to 4 teenagers here).

“Choose your battles”.

“Kindness changes everything”

“Don’t be a dick” (probably the one I use the most. At least once a day. To myself, one of the DCs or another driver.

KnittingSister · 07/02/2019 14:29

Be kind, even when the other person doesn't deserve it. If you're not kind, that takes something from you so you both lose.

oh4forkssake · 07/02/2019 14:50

Never be the one to bring the drama

@O4FS (like your username btw Grin) I shall be storing your first one in my future memory bank!

O4FS · 07/02/2019 18:14

Haha! Yes we are many OFFS.
I find I usually mutter it through gritted teeth with rising blood pressure. A teenager’s glare of contempt can wither you.

DeathBySnuSnu · 07/02/2019 18:15

Never try, never fail Grin

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 07/02/2019 19:12

Oh! And, one from Dorothy on the Golden Girls;

Take a chance. Sometimes good things happen, sometimes bad things happen. But, if you don't take a chance, nothing happens

30 years on and I'm still working on that one. sigh Blush

MeetMeInMontauk · 07/02/2019 19:52

My favourite quote to live by, and one that has served me well to remember in many situations, is from Rudyard Kipling:

'If you don't get what you want, it's a sign either that you did not seriously want it, or that you tried to bargain over the price'

6utter6ean · 17/02/2019 15:44

Read one today:

Wag more; bark less.

Smile
Chottie · 21/02/2019 19:52

When some one show you who they are, believe them....

From the lips of the wonderful, incomparable Maya Angelou....

This has stood me in good stead many a time at work.

Huntawaymama · 21/02/2019 20:13

A quote from the rock I like is "always be the hardest worker in the room"

What goes around comes around

27dresses · 21/02/2019 20:22

Plan for the worse, hope for the best.

Your body is a temple.

You reap what you sow.

wizzler · 21/02/2019 20:31

No one comes to work to deliberately get it wrong

TryItAndDieFatLass · 21/02/2019 21:32

Love all, trust a few, hurt nobody

When things go wrong, chuck it in the fuck it bucket

Only regret things you havent done

Supergrassyknoll · 21/02/2019 21:51

Be nice

Lllot5 · 21/02/2019 22:10

Never eat anything bigger than your own head.
If you can laugh in hard times you’re bulletproof.

magimedi · 21/02/2019 22:17

Only connect.

The foreword to Howard's End.

Just think about those words - so much could be sorted.

Kab30 · 21/02/2019 22:18

Eat shit and die x

OhioOhioOhio · 21/02/2019 22:18

Most things you worry about don't happen.

Dextrodependant · 21/02/2019 22:22

If we're all fed and noone's dead we have had a good day.

Don't worry about that which you can't change.

flowersaremyfave · 21/02/2019 22:31

Do what makes you happy because your a long time dead

Shadow1234 · 21/02/2019 23:09

'When one door closes, another one opens'

' Never bite the hand that feeds you'

'Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes'

'People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'

'A fool and his money are soon parted'
