Not my circus; not my monkeys.

Look after number 1, because no-one else will.

A stitch in time saves nine.

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

If someone looks as though they need help don't be too shy to reach out to them.

April2020mom · 06/02/2019 16:46

Life is for living
Not my circus not my monkeys
Always be prepared
Be positive
Make the most of all opportunities

If you can't buy it twice you can't afford it.

I like 'A wise man [or woman] speaks because he [or she] has something to say, a fool because he has to say something'.

As someone who has was rather quiet as a child, and frequently has to put up with louder colleagues with less of a clue dominating meetings I find it tremendously helpful and true

Don’t go to bed with arguments and bad feelings.
Take the blame and say sorry for things even if not your fault, be the bigger person

You're a long time dead. Not particularly profound but my half sister said this to me just after her dad died and I was about to go travelling. I really absorbed it and had one of the best year's of my life.

Happyinheels · 06/02/2019 19:09

This will pass...

Mine is “love a lot , trust a few, learn to paddle your own canoe”
I see it as be kind but not naive and make sure you can take care of your shit yourself!

midsomermurderess · 06/02/2019 19:38

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think: Winnie the Pooh. I really dislike that Circus, Monkeys one. Harsh, smug and lacking any sort of compassion.

Treat others as you want to be treated.

It takes guts to be gentle and kind.

No pressure, no diamonds

mollyblack · 06/02/2019 20:49

Fuck it, drive on

Baddit · 06/02/2019 21:31

@midsomermurderess - I totally agree. The circus monkeys saying is another way of saying 'not my problem, turn a blind eye'. Pretty shit.

As a perfectionist and habitual procrastinator I do Iike these however.

You're only great if you're grateful
80% of success in life is about just showing up (Woody Allen - unfortunately)
Buy cheap, buy twice
You can't pour from an empty cup
If life gives you lemons, make lemonade
Everything in moderation
Carpe Diem
Where there's a will there's a way
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Never go to sleep on an argument

I do like 'no pressure, no diamonds' too though!

OrangeJuiceandLemon · 06/02/2019 21:51

See I understand the circus/monkey one to mean mind your own business. Keep your beak out, not 'don't get involved if it's helpful'.

JaneJeffer · 06/02/2019 21:58

I think the circus one means I'm not getting involved with your drama.
