Can you tell me about your induction hob please.

We need a new hob wired for electric and also have a gas connection. Can you tell me about your induction hob please, like gas for speed and how controllable it is but never looks clean. Cooked on ceramic before takes ages to boil but much easier to clean so hoping induction is the best of both worlds.

We have no mains gas so we have an induction hob. It's great, both heats up and cools down remarkable quickly. Downsides - not all pots/pans are induction compatible so check what you have. Also, non-stick stuff still gets quite....stuck!

OkToday · 05/02/2019 16:23

Thank you all my pans say induction hob on the bottom so should work fine.

No gas here either so we have induction and it is great. We've gone back to a stove top kettle because it is quicker to boil than an electric kettle. So easy to control the heat level exactly as you want it and easy to wipe clean because stuff doesn't burn on.

I've had one for 6 months now. I really like it, although I find it irritating at times (beeping at me if I take the pan off, beeping at me if I spill something. Just generally beeping at me) It has a super-high setting so stuff boils outrageously quickly (although you have to watch it doesn't boil over, because then of course, it beeps at me) I like the timer on it too, so I can set it to simmer for the amount of time I want, and it automatically turns off the specifed hob when times up.

Excusemyfrench · 05/02/2019 16:32

Ours is great. Works very well and is very responsive and by that I mean will go from low to high and vice versa surprisingly quickly.
However as PP mentioned, not all pans go on it.
Also when too much water gets on it, it stops working until you wipe it.

But all in all its fine and works great I like how tidy it looks when Im done cooking.

A ceramic is very easy to clean and looks smart. We had just a ceramic job previously but now have an Induction Hob and had to buy a whole load of new pans.

flugelhorn811 · 05/02/2019 17:02

I've had two and they're great. Water boils so quickly and you can control the temperature really easily. Downsides would be that I feel like it's more delicate than a gas hob, so you need to be careful about dragging pans across it or resting stuff on it. Also I feel like it's a bit techy for me sometimes and I'd struggle if something went wrong. But it's pretty reliable at the moment. I've had both a Smeg and a Siemens and the Siemens one is definitely better.

We’ve got one in our rental house and it’s now my kitchen must have as so easy to clean.

TheDogsMother · 05/02/2019 18:29

I moved from gas to induction a couple of years ago and wouldn't go back. Every bit as controllable as gas and much easier to clean up. If do do move to induction I would recommend that one of the 'rings' has a variable foot print. On my Neff one I think it is called domino and means you can heat oval or oblong type pans as well as standard round ones.

Thank you, all reports seem positive

I absolutely love mine, heats water to the boil in moments and is so controllable. It's also really easy to keep clean. I love that mine has got 2 programmes on each ring too - one for melting butter/chocolate, and another for keeping things on a simmer.

I wouldn't ever go back to a normal hob after having one.

Ironmanrocks · 05/02/2019 18:53

I love mine too....its a neff and its flush with the counter top - so easy to clean and looks super smart.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 05/02/2019 18:54

Bloody lovemine, it boils a kettle of water much faster than my electric kettle and the control is fantastic.

onsen · 05/02/2019 18:56

I really, really love mine. Was forced into it but now wouldn't change it for anything - all the joy of gas, but even more controllable. And it works like a heatproof worktop on top of the stove when you are getting things out of the oven.

In short, yes.

ReaganSomerset · 05/02/2019 18:59

Yep, very useful and much safer.

wowfudge · 05/02/2019 19:05

I swapped an electric oven and gas hob for an electric induction range and I love it. Being able to give it a wipe and it's clean is a bonus as it's so quick to heat up and really responsive.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 05/02/2019 19:18

It’s a no brainer. Efficient, easy to keep clean, streamlined. Gas looks quite untidy to me now.

Lindtnotlint · 05/02/2019 19:20

LOVE it. And I was a die hard gas user.

Read reviews as some are more prone to random beeping when you disobey their rules. But honestly you would be crazy to get anything else.

leaveby10 · 05/02/2019 19:26

Safer without a doubt - so it's given me peace of mind for the kids learning to cook but the glass is fragile and has broken and cracked and is scratched - get one with a metal frame. It's responsive when using the right pan but finding good pans is a challenge. I have a gas wok that it dominos with - the gas wok still looks perfect and it quite easy to clean. No regrets but it's not perfect and I'm glad I have both.

Teddyreddy · 05/02/2019 19:31

Got ours 9 months ago and love it - it's almost as good at stir fries as gas, and much much better at simmering stuff without it burning. It's definitely worth reading reviews before getting one though - the reviews I looked at suggested some of them are really bad. The only thing I'd get different is get one with a magnetic removable knob so you can twiddle to change setting rather than always having to faff with buttons.

StandardPoodle · 05/02/2019 19:32

We have a Miele induction and it's brilliant - so quick, easy to clean. I cooked a meal for a poorly neighbour last week on their gas hob and it was extremely slow in comparison.
Induction every time - though as PPs have said, not all pans are induction-compatible.

leaveby10 · 05/02/2019 19:47

And even when pans state they are suitable for induction - they are not always very good at conducting, so the super speed induction become super slow. The pan converter doesn't work very well either.

GruffaloStick · 05/02/2019 19:54

We had one that came with the house, I'd never have chosen one but I love it and would go for induction again of I was to design my 'dream kitchen'. Ours is Bosch, the beeping was damn annoying until I worked out you could it turn it off.
Takes seconds to clean and so responsive, cooks steaks etc beautifully. The only thing gas the edge on is stir fried dishes

CarolSpatula · 05/02/2019 19:55

Does le crueset work ok on them?

OhWifey · 05/02/2019 19:55

Gruffalostick PLEASE tell me how to stop the Bosch beeping!
