Your Facebook "friends"

How many are actually your friends, apart from family? Just curious. I don't have Facebook but I know people who do and they've got between 300-500 friends.... "Friends"? Is that what it really is or is it just popularity?

I just had a major cut back on Facebook- a lot of people that I don’t really know and who actually irritated me. I got rid of around 70 people and don’t miss them at all!

LuckyLou7 · 05/02/2019 09:43

I only have people I actually know but some people play Facebook games and amass 'friends' that way. I definitely don't know 500 people personally and I wouldn't want people I don't know having access to my photos etc

I don't have fb but dp has arpund 3 or 4 thousand "friends" claims he knows them all 😂. He doesn't.
Also everytime we meet someone he knows that I have never met before I'll say. Who was that? Withought fail he will tell me it's one of his best friends 🙄 ok then, that's why you have never mentioned them 😂

In rl I have 4 friends and one of them lives miles away now, that will do me though 😊

I have 96 friends (including family). I know them all in real life. Although several are cats.

None. My Facebook friends are people I once knew who I wouldn't hate to hear from again. The FB friends that I have who have thousands of friends are both veyy involved in the local music scene and advertise a lot of stuff on FB so I can see why they add everybody they meet.

SilverySurfer · 05/02/2019 10:23

I don't have FB but agree. From some of the things I have read on here, I think my definition of a friend differs enormously.

SqueakingHamsters · 05/02/2019 10:36

My rule is that if I'd happily meet with you for a coffee and chat then I'll have you as a fb friend. I think I have about 50 people.

Depends on interests and hobbies - niche sport to international level is a good way to add lots of friends you know and enjoy spending time with when in the right location.

Volunteering

Local cycling/running club

Former/current colleagues

People from school/uni.

Easily 500.

My largest group of friends on Facebook is the niche sport- and I'm only peripherally involved recently- but like to keep in touch - hence FB friends!
