I don't want to be an orphan. I know how ridiculous that sounds. But she's been so instrumental in everything. I cannot bear the thought of losing her. I'm staying by the hospital bed .

Thank you all.

She was DD's second parent. She's done everything.

So sorry to read this @lobsterquadrille2. In just a few days I will be facing the first anniversary of my darling mother’s final hospital admission and the total rollercoaster that was realisation that the strongest, most dependable woman I knew was coming to her final days. And the anger that she was too young; that she only went in with her heart failure needing a review and, worst of all to me, that her last months had been marred by misdiagnosis during a previous admission because a more obvious diagnosis was easier to make - and we were fobbed off about wanting it looked into why she had had 3 bouts of sepsis in less than 3 years.

I spent at least 2 nights sat with her in ITU not daring to leave in case she got worse. The care and compassion of the staff in that unit was second to none and I truly believe they made the end easier to accept while exhausting all possible treatments before accepting they couldn’t make this situation right.

All the advice I can offer you is keep an eye on yourself - you need to drink more than usual - ITU units are renowned for being to hot and dry, make sure you get out for fresh air at least once in a day; ask the staff about concessions for parking. Talk to her - read the daily paper, if she has a book on the go or an author she likes, read that.

Best wishes to you all xx

It's good that you get to stay and be with your dear mum. Thinking of you.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 05/02/2019 04:41

Hope you manage to get a bit of rest sweetheart. Hearing what your mum has been for you, I know you’ll never truly lose her. You’ll always know what she would have advised or said if you.just stop and listen.

Sending best wishes. 💐

I'm in the hospital. She is nearly 90. She may be ok but needs major surgery anyway.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 05/02/2019 04:54

And thank you. I didn't imagine that anyone would be up!

adayatthebeach · 05/02/2019 05:25

I’m so sorry! Will they really do major surgery on a 90 year old grieving woman?? All my sympathy.

sashh · 05/02/2019 05:28

Here if you need another virtual hand hold

PoliticalBiscuit · 05/02/2019 05:31

Thinking of you. Hope your mum pulls through x

PoliticalBiscuit · 05/02/2019 09:32

Hope things are ok, have you been able to get any support?

BarbedBloom · 05/02/2019 10:00

Another hand to hold. Flowers

UtterlyDesperate · 05/02/2019 11:03

Popping by with some Flowers and a Brew

You're not alone with this situation. Hope you managed to get some rest.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 05/02/2019 12:36

Thank you all SO much. I can't believe you were all awake and so supportive. You were brilliant. She's hanging on. Apparently it's very positive that she's got through the night (and some of today). I don't really get it but that's what they've told me and I've just come home, partly to feed my poor cat.

Really thank you.

I think the first hours are critical with a heart attack. If she has made it this far the chances are she will recover. I guess a further operation will be a challenge at her age but she has survived today - one day at a time is all you can hope for right now. Look after yourself.
