Hi I have no children but regularly baby sit my.friends little girl who is 16months,Some people are trying to tell her her little girl [redacted] shouldn't be in a cot she is small for 16 months and still fits in 9-12 months clothes I've been there for her mum [redacted] after she fell out with family just after [redacted] was born,I've known Scarlett since she was 3 weeks old and her mum.after she moved into my village after having violent relationship so she is a single mum at 21,She also got told today she wasn't feeding [redacted] probably,Now I know that isn't true cause Scarlett will feed herself although sometimes she wants to be fed,I had her this weekend,I just need some other opinion was to if you think she is ok in a cot,She can't climb out as she only walks holding furniture at moment.
Many thanks [redacted] x

Well my very nearly 2 year old is still in her cot, quite happily too.

If a child isn't trying to climb out, leave them in the cot.

My 2 girls did so at 2, my DS was in a cot to gone 3. It is absolutely fine for her to still be in a cot.

People like to have an opinion on everything.

DDs 18 months old and she is still in her cot, she will be until she can climb out of it.

With the weight issue, she may just be on the smaller side of average. If her mom is concerned is there a health visitor she could see? If she doesn't know the contact details the GP surgery should be able to give them to her.

Size of clothes doesn't matter. My son is almost 3 and still wear 9-12 months trousers no big deal.

Once they can walk comfortably unaided and manage the stairs (which mine could do at 18 months, but doesn't mean they all can) then shouldn't be in a cot any more.

I think what you described is fine and no cause for concern

Of course it’s fine for a 16month old to sleep in a cot. Some kids move to a bed by then, some are still in cots til over 3. If they aren’t trying to climb out then there’s no problem. My DD is 15months and she’s not moving to a bed any time soon. I’d say the average age of moving to a bed is around 2-2.5, purely based on my DSs peer group.

Weight wise she might just be small. all kids are different sizes. If your friend is concerned about her weight then she should see the GP
