Cairngorms once higher than the Himalayas

Watching a recorded episode of winter watch and Chris Packham says that at one time the Cairngorms were higher than the Himalayas.

I found this quite interested so have done some internet searching and can't find anything that backs this up.

Could this be true?

I was taught this at school. It’s bevause the Cairngorms are so much older - they have all but weathered away. The Himalayas on the other hand are still growing.

Yes, it's true - most of the Cairngorms have eroded away, whereas the Himalayas are relatively young geologically speaking and are still continuing to rise as the tectonic plates push continents together.
