Has anyone here tried spatone?

For years now, since having kids, I've been anaemic. I've tried the iron tablets but they really don't agree with me. I've been worse, I've had times where I had zero energy and felt constantly weak but I'm functioning fine now, just get tired throughout the day.

I take the pill for 3 months running without a break so I only have a period 4 times a year so I think that helps.

I'm just getting fed up of feeling lethargic and I've bought some spatone to try. Has anyone had any success with it? I'm really hoping it's going to work!

Yes I take it regularly. It really works and does not give you normal side effects of iron supplements.
I took it daily for the first couple of months to really boost my levels and now take it when I'm near my period and needing a boost.

Totally recommend!

Just as a side note, I stopped taking the pill around 4 years ago and that had made the biggest difference to my overall health.

You could not pay me to take it again. I feel
Like a different person without the hormones.

Yes with juice so it is better absorbed
But it is very low dose iron so will take a long time to resolve

I used it when pregnant because the iron tablets were horrible. This worked well, but I did need to have quite a few sachets a day so it was quite expensive. I used to mix mine with fresh orange juice as advised by my midwife. Apparently it helps with the iron absorption.

OutPinked · 04/02/2019 10:44

It’s expensive and you need to have a few sachets a day to get the same MG of iron tablets offer. It’s never really worked for me but iron tablets are too nasty so I take it anyway. It tastes rancid so best downing it with some fresh OJ.

Is your gp looking into reasons for long term anaemia? I tried SpaTone but the taste made heave even when mixed with juice. Like drinking water that has had old coins soaking in it.

Alabasterangel6 · 04/02/2019 10:55

It has to be in very nice OJ or it tastes like licking an old teaspoon Grin

Thistles24 · 04/02/2019 10:57

I used it in my second pregnancy, and although it didn’t stop me being anaemic it kept my iron levels up enough so I only had to take the tablets for the last month. I’m currently vegan so started taking a b12 supplement and that’s made a HUGE difference to my energy levels.

Oh I can't really afford to be using more than one sachet a day... sounds as though that won't have much of an effect then 😩

Whilst the iron dose is much lower than tablets I found I absorbed it better and it helped increase my iron levels fairly quickly when I was pregnant. Either get the apple flavoured or mix with juice. Don't have it within an hour of drinking tea as that reduces absorption.

You really need 2 sachets a day if your levels are low. Boots nearly always has it on 3 for 2, and I combine with extra points vouchers. 6 weeks supply would be £25 + at least £2 in points with a voucher. Worth a try if you can afford it.

Bumblebee39 · 04/02/2019 13:36

I just drink a glass of OJ with the normal iron pills which does the trick
I also eat lots of meat and greens. Like about 1/2 my diet. Which meant the anaemia didn't come back.
My first pregnancy I was incredibly anaemic and for months afterwards, but I wasn't anaemic at all with pregnancy's 2 and now 3.
I have very heavy periods (possibly endo) so am prone to anaemia. I don't have to take iron pills anymore though.

PFB1 · 04/02/2019 19:51

I may just stick to one sachet a day and buy an extra pack whenever I have the money spare. Can't do any harm I suppose. I just don't want to be wasting money if it's not going to make a difference to me.

Iron tablets all used to make me gag and feel sick (especially the ones that smell of brewers yeast, when I was pregnant!) I was anaemic for 20yrs (apparently I don't store iron efficiently). Two years ago someone recommended Vitabiotics iron capsules so I tried them and I have had no nausea, no bloating and no black poo, and more energy and better colour to my skin and eyes. My iron levels have gone up enough to be able to give blood again. Please try them and see if they help you too!

Yes! Hate iron tablets they make me vomit. Spa tone is great I've really noticed the difference in my energy levels!
I put two sachets in a glass of real orange juice each morning,
