I overheard these 2 remarks today within minutes of each other

Remark 1:

Man said to woman: I'm right here next to you. You don't have to stand so close all the time or grab my hand.

Remark 2:

Man said to woman: It's not a question of if you need it, it's a question of if you want it.

Obviously just snippets overheard as I passed but the contrast struck me.

I think I'd rather be woman 2

Delboy1964 · 03/02/2019 21:17

Definitely. Man 1 sounded really narky
:(.

Some people just don’t like holding hands, my dh could have said both of the 2 comments. He hates holiding hands and we never have.

SouthWestmom · 03/02/2019 21:21

I make remark 1 to dh and he would make remark 2 to me. I'm aware I have the better deal:

Delboy1964 · 03/02/2019 21:23

I get that some people like a bit of space - it was just man 1's tone of voice (which I realise I didn't mention in my op). And then man 2 sounded so caring.

Need/want what? Sex?
Don't get that comment.
If it's about buying stuff surely it should be about needing not just wanting... What are you reading into these random utterances?

PerfectPeony · 03/02/2019 21:25

I couldn’t be with someone who didn’t want to hold my hand. I’m quite needy, though.

GunpowderGelatine · 03/02/2019 21:28

TBF I would say remark no 1 to my DH. I hate hand holding and sometimes he stands so bloody close and bellows in my ear (he has one of those carrying voices) I have to say "I am right fucking next to you back off". Sends me potty!

Delboy1964 · 03/02/2019 21:29

I don't know what man 2 was actually talking about but it sounded like the woman had seen something she liked but didn't need, and he was saying doesn't matter if you don't need it but want it, get it.

Basically I heard 2 men in the space of 5 mins talking very differently to the women they were with and the contrast struck me.

I make remark 1 to DH all the time. I'm a bit funny with personal space and quite often shake his hand off and can't be doing with the constant touching. That probably makes me a bit mean but I can't help it.

The woman who remark 2 was made to is probably a spoilt madam 😂😂😂

BrightStarrySky · 03/02/2019 21:32

No. 2 reminds me of what my FIL said to my MIL in a shop once, ‘Well, if you want it you shall have it!’ I adored him then. Granted not everyone can afford that attitude, but he could and he was happy to make her happy. Love it.

PerfectPeony · 03/02/2019 21:44

To be fair I need someone to tell me that I shouldn’t buy stuff I don’t need, otherwise we’d end up bankrupt!

augustusglupe · 03/02/2019 21:48

Was it Prince Harry? Grin

DH is always grabbing my hand and nuzzling in. I love him dearly but hate PDA of any kind. He knows this so isn’t offended, we’re just different. Depends on the relationship tbh.

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2019 21:50

DH says the second one to me all the time.

We are not big on hand holding though.
