Amazon Alexia and Echo- extra £9.99 a month??

We’ve had an Amazon Alexia in the front room for about a year and we already pay something like £7.99 a month for music/prime etc.
We just brought DS an Amazon Echo for his bedroom but apparently we have to pay an extra £9.99 a month to add the device to the account?
Seems a bit steep? Is this correct?

Surely not? I got an echo dot and thought using it was included in regular amazon prime?

You don't pay anything to add another device to your account

You will pay extra for Amazon Family which is where you can, for example, play different music on different devices. Is that what you mean?

I’m not sure... DH and DS just informed me that the only way to get it to work is to pay and extra £9.99 a month.
I have no idea about this stuff so I thought I’d ask Mumsnet!

Saw something this morning but thought it was a buy over X months offer

We have 2 echoes and one dot and certainly don't pay any extra for any of them. I have prime.

it does cost more to add amazon music to more than one device.

I have 3 one has amazon music on, one uses the prime music and the otherone I just listen to the radio on.

Echos do not require any ongoing fees to work, after purchase. No subs required, not even Prime. Just your free amazon account.

What DH/DS are on about is adding an extra music subscription. Probably Amazon Music.

Neither Prime nor an Echo give you Amazon Music. Prime does give you access to some music, but it's a smaller selection and only on one Echo IIRC.

I'm not certain how that works, as I have an existing Spotify £10/month sub that I use on the Echos instead of Amazon Music.
