Hi !

I have been on citalopram 20 for 13 years, I have a lots of time when i feel really depressed especially 10 days to a week before my periods..I have tried to up the medicine following my gp’s advice but it made me feel sick. My question is : could it be because citalopram is not working anymore and I need to change ? I’m not in a good place.

Sorry things are tough with you Flowers

It worked for a couple of years for me, and then didn't, despite increasing and increasing. If you've given it a go at the next dose up for a month or so and there's no improvement, you might be the same. Go back to your GP and speak with them about changing.

People often have to switch after a few years, or change dose to get better results.

You might need to change dose or it could be you need a change. Best to talk to your doctor. Citalopram didn't do anything apart from take the edge of. Venlaxfaxine was better for me.
