If you wake up early to do exercise, are you a morning person?

Because that's my excuse at the moment. You're obviously morning people. I just don't seem to be able to get up unless I have to! I booked a class yesterday morning which meant I had to be up by 7.45 but couldn't do it! I actually woke up at 3am and cancelled the class. I never usually wake in the night but my body obviously subconsciously knew I needed to cancel the class!
I fit in exercise at other times but it would be such an efficient way to get it done! It's just sheer willpower isn't it?!

I am indeed a morning person. Not necessarily that workout sets me for the day, but I'm content I got rid of it mwahabah😂😂😂

Kikipost · 06/02/2019 05:48

Also I find that if I start the day with a run or some flow yoga I make better choices through the day - I eat more healthily and I feel as though I've set my head up right if that makes sense?

This.

Morning exercise sets a very positive tone fpr day for me in every respect

jessstan2 · 06/02/2019 08:42

I don't. Takes me half the morning to wake up properly. I exercise later.

Pretamum · 06/02/2019 09:35

I used to get up early to go to the gym - it was a pain but totally worth it. I'd set my alarm for 5:30, get to the gym for 6 and then work out for an hour before showering and doing my hair for work. It had so many benefits - I could come home after work and not feel guilty for sitting on the sofa doing sweet FA, my hair always looked good because I had to wash it after workout before heading to the office, and I had a lot more motivation to do more because I gave myself plenty of time to get to the office - no need to rush the workout.

Then I had a child and that all went out the window! I'd definitely still do early workouts if it wasn't for my son!

evilharpy · 06/02/2019 10:12

A few years ago I found it a lot easier. I didn't start work till 9:30 so could get up about 6:30, go for a run, come home and shower, do my hair etc and get the train to work without having to rush.

Now I start at 8am and need to leave home at 7:30. I really need to eat breakfast and have a coffee before work and it takes me a while to dry and straighten my hair so if I have to shower before work I need to be in the shower for about 6, which means having to get up about 5. It's just too early for me. I am not a morning person at all.

I could really do with getting into the habit though.

hihellohihey · 06/02/2019 10:15

My alarm goes off at 5:45am on weekdays and I'm in the gym by about 6:20. I dread it every evening and drag myself out of bed but by the time i'm up and dressed I feel quite awake. It's so worth it to feel wide awake going to work and not having to worry about when you're going to fit in during the rest of the day. Also means I can get in my pyjamas as soon as I'm in from work in the evenings!

I always exercise on an empty stomach and then breakfast feels like a tread haha.l

Unbelievable18 · 06/02/2019 10:21

Not really, but I seriously force myself to go after school dropoff (so not super early like some of you) and that has its advantages of being done and feeling better for the day.

lastqueenofscotland · 06/02/2019 10:26

I am not a morning person at all, but I run to a very decent club level and I enjoy the success I have at it and if I don’t get up and get the miles in it doesn’t happen.

I’d also not call getting up at 7:45 remotely early Confused

Unbelievable18 · 06/02/2019 10:40

Nope....7:45am is not early either in my book! 5am is - hats off to those who do that.

evilharpy · 06/02/2019 11:11

7:45 is not even slightly early :D

April2020mom · 06/02/2019 11:20

I do thirty minutes on my exercise ball every day before I go to my office downtown. It helps me concentrate. In the summer I walk to my office rather than use my scooter.

malvinandhobbes · 06/02/2019 11:21

I love to exercise in the morning and hate to work out in the evening. My toddler wakes very early, so it is hard for me to work out in the morn gins and I have been doing evening classes. I hate working out in the evening, I have trouble falling asleep. I am a morning person.

My ideal time is 9:00am, but that only works on a Saturday.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 06/02/2019 11:38

I love early morning exercise, especially running. I love the endorphins I get, and the smug feeling that I've already got it done for the day. If I don't get up and do it, I find myself dreading it throughout the day, even though I really enjoy it. My brain is weird.

Unfortunately, I can't usually do it. I'm up at 6am every day as it is, just to get up and ready, DD to nursery and to be at my desk on time (long commute), if I wanted to even do a short run in the morning beforehand, it would mean getting up at 5, and I just can't make myself do that - even I have limits! Oh, for a job closer to home!

quirkychick · 06/02/2019 11:40

I agree that you need to make it a habit and not think about it. I know I feel worse if I don't.

strawberrisc · 06/02/2019 11:50

I'm a morning person but not an exercise person - unless I'm looking after one of my beloved dogs when dogsitting!

I am 37 now and have been getting up to go running before work (or school) since the age of 15.

I get up at 5 at the moment and although it's earlier than I'd like it's much better than doing it after work when I want to do other things and hobbies and don't really feel like exercise.

Unbelievable18 · 06/02/2019 13:47

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie wow! Do you run every morning?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 06/02/2019 14:08

yes I do! The day doesn't feel right if I don't.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/02/2019 14:09

My alarm goes off at 4.40am every weekday morning and I either run or do F45, 5-6 days a week.
I'm lucky that I live in a tropical climate though so running at 5am only involves a running bra, shorts and shoes.

Genuinely hand on heart, the hours between 5am-7am are my favorite of the day. In the summer the sun rises around 6am and I watch the it turning the sky all the colors of the rainbow and it's spectacular to watch. Makes me want to burst with joy.

When I get home and shower I feel amazing for the rest of the day.

Unbelievable18 · 06/02/2019 14:22

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie how far do you typically go? Sorry for all the questions! I also run regularly, love it.

NunoGoncalves · 06/02/2019 15:44

Yep I'm a morning person. I train at 7am twice a week, (up at 5.30am to eat then cycle down there) and I love it! I feel so invigorated for the whole day after!

But I would never be able to make myself exercise in the evening! I'm too exhausted by that point and don't want to do anything other than collapse on the sofa.

So I'm guessing it goes both ways!

Yes! I love dawn! If I'm not training at that time then I take the dog out at around 5.30/6am. Love it. Deserted streets, birds singing, sun coming up, crisp fresh air!

Mmmmbrekkie · 06/02/2019 15:56

@Unbelievable18

I do short run of 7k 2x week
2 medium of 9k
And then one longer of 12k

All fast - av pace under 5min/k

All back by 7.30
Just lovely

Mmmmbrekkie · 06/02/2019 15:56

Sometimes I have been known to throw my arms up in an empty park and yell “yee-hah”!!! So liberating!
