I’m too young to remember the Cold War but I find this concerning. If there is already a post on this forgive me, I didn’t see it

I remember the cold war. It is concerning.

PenguinPandas · 03/02/2019 10:09

Saw preliminary news about this few months back and very concerned about it.

sideorderofchips · 03/02/2019 10:48

glad it’s not just me

I find it odd there's not a lot more concern though - I mentioned it on here before and not much reaction.

sideorderofchips · 03/02/2019 11:04

Yes I have found that as well. I was talking to my dad last night and he said the same. The implications of it are huge

Yup, worried here. The warmongers are back, in force.

PenguinPandas · 03/02/2019 11:32

I'm far more concerned about this than Brexit but seem to be alone on MN in that - just think it could lead to WW3 but everyone else just seems concerned with stockpiling food. Not sure why it is - I can understand concern with Brexit though the prospect of a bomb say wiping out whole of London worries me a lot more.

I lived through the cold war and this is extremely worrying.

The world was almost obliterated in 1983, although the population wasn't aware of it at the time. Google 'Stanislav Petrov, the man who saved the world'. He was a Soviet commander who refused to push the button when reports of incoming American missiles came through. It turned out to be a false alarm. If he'd responded differently, we'd now be back living in the stone age.

User10fuckingmillion · 03/02/2019 11:42

Fucking hell this is worryingly Shock

User10fuckingmillion · 03/02/2019 11:42

*worrying

sideorderofchips · 03/02/2019 12:44

That’s it. I know Brexit is a more immediate worry but this is a potential catastrophe worry.

My dad patrolled Greenham Common when nukes were there. He said in light of a probable no deal Brexit the Americans have a chance to say ‘we will trade with you... if we can keep some of our nuclear weapons there’. Not sure whether that is a possibility but if it is it makes us a helluva target.

We've been there before with American missiles on our soil. It wasn't great at the time and it will be less so now.

sideorderofchips · 03/02/2019 16:33

It will be especially with technology advances compared to before
