guardian link jamaica inn

For those who don't like clicking on links, story about 140 stranded travellers cramming in to the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin Moor.

I may just be emotional due to period but this article made me tearful. Of course strangers pulling together is always heartwarming. i think it made me sad for a different way of living.

"the inn’s assistant manager, said: “It was actually a lovely atmosphere – we brought out all our board games and complete strangers were playing against each other. A lot of people made friends – probably for life – with one room being occupied by five people who didn’t know each other."

Its sounds perfect doesn't it? I was quite envious when I heard the story in the radio yesterday.

It is a lovely story.

I live in Devon and there were quite a few people stranded in our area. There were quite a few posts being shared on FB of places like village halls, YHAs, pubs offering shelter for stranded motorists

I was reminded of childhood youth hostelling in the 80s. I took my children last year and it was much more reserved. No communal supper like I had promised them!
