Just wrote the term "screen time" on another thread and realised this is such a new term. Ok so tablets are new. But we all watched screens in the 70s and 80s. Nobody really gave a shit how much tv a kid watched then.

'Pre school'. Back in my day it was Nursery.now Nursery is the private paid for childcare used before preschool. Which is childcare attached to a school. I wonder why? Are we in a rush to grow the kids up, using a word which has school in it?

'Self regulate' - food, tablet, whatever. We let our dc 'Self regulate' on these things. Nobody EVER said this about any kids 20 years ago.

Yes 'screen time' is a recent thing. I'm always conflicted by trying to limit my children's screen time but then fondly remembering all the things I used to love watching on TV as a child, and chatting about with my friends.

Trying to think of others. Is 'time out' a new thing? Baby wearing? I've never actually used these terms but do hear about them on here!

Yes! Babywearing as an actual thing is older than time itself, But did we ever harp on about it in 400ad? No, we just cracked on with shit.

I'd say time out is the 21st century "naughty step". Because woe betide we use that word. SIL once got out a "reflection carpet" for DNeice to sit on and think about what she had done. She was 2.5 fgs.

'Screen time' may be a recent thing, but I remember my parents being strict about watching too much television or sitting too close to the TV, claiming that it would give me 'square eyes'. Grin

When my DD was that age she'd have reflected by throwing a shoe at me.

Screen time is just because there are so many different screens now. We used to get the "square eyes" jibes if we watched too much telly but these days a DC could watch a film for two hours, go on to tge Internet on their I Pad for two hours, then on the X Box for another two followed by their phone. Some parents might think it's good they are varying their activities but of course it's all much of a muchness and "Screen time" reflects that
