If you don’t drink alcohol what nice drink do you have in the pub?

After totally disgracing myself on a work night out recently I have decided I’m not drinking alcohol again for the foreseeable future. So looking for some nice suggestions on what to have instead when going out with DH tonight? I don’t like coke or Fanta/sprite, I find them really sweet and cloying.

Half orange juice, half cranberry is really nice. Sometimes I'll have just tonic water with ice and lemon

GertrudeWilloughby · 01/02/2019 17:33

Lime juice, tonic and ice.

AlpacaPicnic · 01/02/2019 17:35

Fresh orange or fresh mango juice, topped up with nice lemonade (the cloudy kind) or fizzy water.

If they have root beer then I'm in heaven. It's so hard to find in this country though.

Lime and soda. Or I've just discovered a really lovely lemon flavoured fevertree tonic - lovely and bitter.

MrsTommyBanks · 01/02/2019 17:39

Lime and soda or St Clements.

soberexpat · 01/02/2019 17:40

I haven't had a drink for over a year. Soda and lime is lovely and refreshing and not too insanely sugary for me.

PoohBearsHole · 01/02/2019 17:40

Angoustoura butters and soda?

Teaandcrisps · 01/02/2019 17:40

Oh go on OP tell us what happened...

trulybadlydeeply · 01/02/2019 17:44

I love the Fever Tree range of flavoured tonics - the lemon is lovely, as are the elderflower and clementine. There's some others I can't remember as well. Feels like a proper "grown up" drink.

Hobbes8 · 01/02/2019 17:46

Lots more pubs are doing alcohol free drinks now - Becks Blue and stuff like that. I struggle in pubs though - I have lovely treat soft drinks at home. Ginger beer is nice and not too sweet.

elasticfantastic · 01/02/2019 17:48

Slimline tonic with ice and lemon is my favourite

BethiaRuby · 01/02/2019 17:48

I always have soda water and lime.

headstone · 01/02/2019 17:48

I often just have tonic water when at my boozy parents. It tastes almost alcoholic but isn’t.

GalacticChickenShit · 01/02/2019 17:49

Irn Bru.
Or if they have the right flavour, non-alcoholic Koppaberg

anxiousbundle · 01/02/2019 17:51

Appletiser is delicious (and healthy as it's only ingredients are carbonated water and 100% apple juice).

Or a diet coke :)

cricketmum84 · 01/02/2019 17:51

Lime and soda is lovely, not too sweet and dirt cheap, they only charge you for a splash of cordial.

Fever tree tonics too, I love the Mediterranean one.

SummersB · 01/02/2019 17:51

Thanks, I would normally have lime and soda but I find it a bit boring so grateful for all the suggestions!
Teaandcrisps - had planned a nice meal out with a load of workmates. Some brought drinks on the train so i had a couple of Proseccos and it went downhill from there... I have a very high tolerance for alcohol and don’t really ever get very drunk but due to early drinking/having taken co-codamols due to horrific period pain and having just finished night shifts that morning so going out on virtually no sleep I got so drunk so quickly that I don’t remember going to the reastaurant at all... I spent the entire night sleeping with my head on the table and only waking occasionally to have a discrete vomit onto the paper menu... the latter luckily only noticed by my friend next to me who took care of it and later escorted me home. I am so mortified I am cringing writing this down! I’m lucky that I work with really really nice people who have been so kind about it, and also luckily I wasn’t the only one to get completely arseholed. But it gave me a real scare, I have never drunk to the point of oblivion and never ever been sick in public! So yeah - I’m off the booze now for the foreseeable future!

I generally have a ginger ale (fever tree ones are nice)

SummersB · 01/02/2019 17:53

Some lovely suggestions, thanks all!

I struggle with this because I avoid sugary drinks, I certainly don't want to drink them in the quantities people tend to consume when out "for a drink"

TBH I stick with water or tea/coffee

widgetbeana · 01/02/2019 17:54

Ask the barman if they do non alcoholic cocktails or mixes. I have found you get 1 of 2 responses a) a short sharp 'what?' Or 'no'. B) they come up with lots of suggestions and interesting ideas.

It really is a Russian roulette, but can be a good way to find new drinks!

Teaandcrisps · 01/02/2019 17:55

Ah that's brilliant. I was once at staff Christmas dinner and my boss got so drunk she barfed across the table. Happy times! Thanks for revealing!

Nixen · 01/02/2019 17:56

Ginger beer and lime
Lemonade with a dash of lime cordial
Mocktails or alcohol free cider

lubeybooby · 01/02/2019 17:56

Diet coke or lime and soda depending on mood/time of night. If it's daytime, a cup of tea!

SarahET · 01/02/2019 17:56

I choose from the cocktail menu and then ask them to make a virgin version of whatever I want. Elderflower cordial with soda is nice too.
