Am I being silly for worrying?

Please will somebody tell me I’m worrying unnecessarily?

Around lunchtime today, I rang my pension provider to change the amount I pay in monthly.

The phone kept on ringing until switchboard stepped in.

The lady on the switchboard asked my reason for ringing so I explained so she could put me through to the correct dept. She said she thought the dept had closed for the day, but just to check, she asked me what my plan number was.

I gave it to her, she tapped away at something, then confirmed the dept was closed for the rest of the day.

It was only when I put the phone down that I thought it was odd asking my plan number just to confirm the dept was closed?

Now I’m panicking, thinking I shouldn’t have given her my plan number.

Please help. Have I done something stupid?

What do you think she might have done with your plan number?

Maybe different plan numbers are dealt with by different departments. For example plans beginning ABC are dept 1 and and plans beginning BCD are dept 2. She needed the number to check which department yours was.

I’ve no idea SoyDora.

I had that advert going through my head, where a seemingly pleasant lady on the phone asked a customer their details twice, said goodbye, then said “see what I did there?”

Hopefully @BooksAreMyOnlyFriends, but wouldn’t she have needed just the first few numbers on the plan? It’s me isn’t it, hence my username..

I dont think you have anything to worry about.

spiderlight · 01/02/2019 16:59

If you rang them, on their actual official number, you should be OK - it's not as if you gave the number out to a cold caller.

Stupidmoment2019 · 01/02/2019 17:08

Yes, I did ring them on their official number @spiderlight Blush.

Ok, stupid moment gone now.

Thanks 💐

My pension provider has different departments dealing with pension plans. I don't think you have anything to worry about either.
