What things do you see and think are just pretentious?

For me it's cafés with "no WiFi here, talk to each other!" signs.

A) I'll probably go elsewhere thanks

B) My best friend likes to sit on his phone anyway because they don't realise mobile data exists.

I just find it so wanky - if I'm going out to spend money on a drink and several pieces of cake then I'm going out to relax. If I want to be on my phone then I will be.

@ShatnersBassoon 😂😂 seeping into your gusset! 😂😂

To be fair, these days it doesn't seem to matter which chromosomal pair you have only those you identify as... 🙄 so you should feel free to use either!

Rachyabbadabbadoo · 02/02/2019 13:14

Just read the label on my scented sticks (one point for them), apparently they are "hand poured" in the U.K. Wonder if machine poured ones smell different?

ScreamingValenta · 02/02/2019 13:18

"Edit" appearing everywhere - style edit, brand edit, designer edit etc. What does it mean?

tiredandgrumpy · 02/02/2019 13:19

Cupcakes.

They're buns fgs. With way too much sugary crap on.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:20

I agree, “edit” and “curate” are wildly overused for “select” “choose” “sort out” “clear up”

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:21

Cupcakes are just awful and if I ruled the world they would be banned.

It's short for edition isn't it?

BertrandRussell · 02/02/2019 13:31

“Cupcakes are just awful and if I ruled the world they would be banned”

Noooooo! They are my biggest seller-easy to make, never go wrong and fly off the shelf. Nobody ever went broke underestimating the public taste.

LynetteScavo · 02/02/2019 13:31

Also waiters who for some reason don't write down your order. I'm not impressed, and I am less impressed when the wrong dish comes out. Absolutely! Angry

And the use of the words "skill set" Ahhh! "Would you like me to proof read the poster fur the PTA Sumner Fair? Proof reading's in my skill set."
Oh fuck off, we've all got GCSE English, y'know.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 13:32

Cupcakes are just big buns (oooerrr). Some of them are overly sugary whereas some are lovely. Don't think they're pretentious though. Can you have a pretentious confectionery item?

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:34

Sugar is the very definition of a pretentious food stuff: all calories and no nutrition.

ScreamingValenta · 02/02/2019 13:34

PorpentinaScamander

I don't know Confused. 'Edition' doesn't make much sense either in the context.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:35

Edit is a verb

ScreamingValenta · 02/02/2019 13:36

BertrandRussell Most cupcakes I've encountered would be lovely, if only the ratio of cake to icing was better. They always seem to be mostly icing, with a tiny bit of cake.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 13:37

Sugars ubiquity means it cannot be classified as pretentious. I suppose those sugar banquets the filthy rich Tudors liked to hold could have been described as such. Sugar sculptures and so on.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 02/02/2019 13:40

For all of those saying personalised stuff, I give you personalised gates! Someone on my street had their names designed into their iron front gate HmmGrin

AnyFucker · 02/02/2019 13:43

Calling photographs "captures"

Prefacing any announcement with "People ! (now I will give you some patronising advice about seizing the day or some shit)"

C8H10N4O2 · 02/02/2019 13:46

^This!

I loathe the mountain of buttercream on the top of most cup cakes. I prefer old fashioned fairy cakes with just some thin lemon icing or butterfly style with actual whipped cream.

I prefer the smaller size of fairy cakes as well.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:47

The ubiquity of sugar does not exonerate it from pretentiousness, it merely proves that prententiousness has vanquished good sense.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 13:48

Imagine a supermarket with all the items containing sugar removed.

PorpentinaScamander · 02/02/2019 13:49

I've only seen "edit" used in that was when talking about a magazine/set of photos.
E.g. "fashion edit" is all about fashion. Hence I assumed it meant edition.

If it not that then fuck knows

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 13:49

I'd rather not.

Lovelyflowerstoday · 02/02/2019 13:56

I hate outdoor swimming being referred to as 'wild' swimming, wtf? We used to just go 'swimming' in rivers or the sea didn't we?

KissingInTheRain · 02/02/2019 14:02

Imagine a supermarket with all the items containing sugar removed.

No fruit. No milk. Few if any vegetables...

findingmyfeet12 · 02/02/2019 14:02

Also, when did exercise bikes become spinning machines?
