What foods bring you joy?

Mine:
Bolognese (cooked long and slow)
Roast chicken
cold poached salmon
cold lobster
roasted cauliflower
stilton cheese at room temperature
lentil crisps

I love most food but these in particular are just so very delicious to me.

What are yours?

Baked camembert as mentioned above
Belly pork
Mozzarella (or even better, burrata)
Just fried halloumi (no good in a restaurant, it’s gone rubbery by the time it reaches the table)
Raw broccoli stalks (peeled)
A ripe plum or nectarine
Roasted red peppers (annoyingly need to be home made) and goats cheese
Crab claws
Crumpet with lots of butter

quirkychick · 01/02/2019 13:49

I agree with all of those minipie.

Pineapple90 · 01/02/2019 13:59

Yup definitely tiger bread
Homemade minestrone or roast tomato soup
Spaghetti bolognaise with grated, melted cheddar on top
Smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, gherkin bagel
Baked camembert with chutney and crackers
Onion rings crisps
Sweet and sour king prawns
Prawns in chilli and garlic

Ooh, a simple one here...

A bag of bacon frazzle crisps, a bag of cheesy balls crisps and a bag of onion rings crisps, poured into a bowl together. And a slice of bread and butter to make a multiple-crisp butty.

Also battered onion rings, hot from the fryer and sprinkled with salt.

@AlpacaPicnic 🤤🤤

My homemade slow cooked beef cheek ragu with homemade pasta, I make it once in a blue moon as it takes so long but it is just delicious!

Baked Camembert with crusty bread
All of my aunties homemade cakes
Crumpets with butter and marmite
Rare steak and peppercorn sauce
Crab sandwiches (only to be eaten on the beach)
Honeycomb ice cream
Gherkins
Any and all cheese, room temperature
Home grown tomatoes straight off the vine
Hot doughnuts in sugar and cinnamon
Chips and curry sauce

Oh god I could go on, I love food

Freshly made donuts. I'm talking about the ones you buy from a stall or trailer on the promenade in Blackpool etc. The last thing we do after a day out is buy 1-2 bags and eat them with a brew in the hotel room. The kids devour them while still piping hot.

Rare steak with linguine (sauce made from the meat juices, olive oil and pepper) with loads of parmesan.

Mushroom double Swiss burger from Burger King

I remember this. The best best burger I ever tasted.

BikeRunSki · 02/02/2019 08:43

YY to room temp Stilton, with fresh bread and unsalted butter.

Most of you seem to be in the savoury camp. My favourite savoury is a good pizza, nice freshly cooked chips outside in a cone, with lashings of salt n vinegar. Found a great home oven cooked chip now though. I've always leaned more towards sweet for really favourite food, but don't overdo it and on the whole well balanced. Anyway my favourites are 1.
pain au chocolate, must be heated in oven, 2. Rice pudding tin or home made, 3. Most nicely home made cake, 4. Pancakes with lemon juice and sugar, maple syrup or golden syrup, ice cream (not all at once!)

Vacherin cheese when its completely gooey and soft with lots of crackers to dip into ...

Fresh warm homemade bread with honey drizzle or butter

A cup of cafetiere coffee with newspapers and quiet in the morning

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 02/02/2019 10:01

I'm sure someone posted the recipe for making the sauce for the mushroom double Swiss burger on here a while back. It was very decadent.

Endofrelationship · 02/02/2019 10:05

There really is something heavenly about cold poached salmon.

BearSoFair · 02/02/2019 10:43

Cheesy mashed potato, if you get the perfect cheese ratio and mash away every lump. Mash can quickly go from the best to worst food by finding some lumpy bits!

EngagedAgain · 02/02/2019 11:39

Oh another savoury favourite of mine was (don't make it often now, smaller appetite) beef casserole, just with onion, carrots and swede, well cooked but chunky veg, with home made beef suet dumplings. On a cold winters day. Yummy!

quirkychick · 03/02/2019 08:44

Oh, yes, mushroom double Swiss burger! Delicious.
Vacherin cheese definitely comes under smelly, delicious cheese (I weirdly don't particularly like blue cheese).
Beef stew is great this time of year, really good with either red wine or guinness too.
Crepe type pancakes, fresh from the pan with a good mixture of soft and crispy.

EngagedAgain · 03/02/2019 08:57

I used to occasionally make a steak and ale pie with puff pastry top, using Guinness. No pastry underneath as found it goes soggy, plus less work!
