A little experiment

so I'm trying a little experiment just before I go off to bed to see how accurate the dictation is on my iPad hey seems to be going OK so far I don't know if you mistakes are slightly more mistakes now so I was wondering how her throat would go if that's all we did just dictate instead of typing no corrections I don't know how to cook. So they say oh that was supposed to say. It's kind a little bit wrong though

Well anyway good night now and see you in the morning

(cheating to say that apparently either I'm crap at dictating or my ipad has little clue as to what I'm saying)

I think it best you have an early night BadKitten, and maybe tomorrow you will feel better........

magimedi · 31/01/2019 22:23

I can see where you are coming from, OYBBK .

Dictation on an I Pad is obv crap - but I am not a fan of Apple!

I would rather have no connection than use any Apple device.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 22:28

Thanks Magi. I guess the rather rude people are out tonight! I'd not tried dictating with my ipad before and wondered how it would go. Especially if others thought it interesting or amusing to try as well too. Apparently it didn't go very well. I'll go back to my usual boards.

I find that dictation on iOS is much more accurate than on other operating systems (especially Windows).

Not understanding wtf you are on about doesn't make people rude. It makes them totally confused.

sleeplessinsomewhereelse · 31/01/2019 22:39

It gets better with time. Honestly!

I have used it after breaking my arm so I feel qualified to comment.

I do Always have to go back and edit it slightly though. It's not 100%

JingleJake · 31/01/2019 22:44

Grin i don’t understand this at all but proper made me laugh

GnothiSeafton · 01/02/2019 06:40

Hahaha, OYBBK, I got the gist of your OP but I've got no idea what the 'wrong' bits are meant to mean Grin

It was supposed to say that I was wondering how the thread would go if we all dictated our replies and didn't correct what appeared. Then I made a comment trying to correct what I said to make it clearer and it didn't!

I then gave up on the idea. Mn is so unpredictable at times. Sometimes people catch on to a bit of fun very quickly and sometimes they don't.

OP posts:
GnothiSeafton · 01/02/2019 08:05

Ah, so 'throat' = 'thread'!

"I don't know how to cook" - still bemused by this one though!!!!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 08:07

That bit was supposed to say 'I don't know how to add paragraphs' How it changed to cook I've no idea! Learning point: don't think aloud when dictating!

I'm dictating this message right now. I am on Android not on Apple I don't know if that makes any difference.
This is really clever, you have to put in the punctuation, but that makes sense.

MeetOnTheledge · 01/02/2019 08:13

My dyslexic DD uses it, she can dictate a short essay that way, her school suggested she try it. She then edits it manually. I use it on my phone for inputting texts, reminders etc. It's not perfect but it is useful.

MeetOnTheledge · 01/02/2019 08:14

Oh I see I didn't dictate that message but this one is dictated that's why it's got no punctuation

MeetOnTheledge · 01/02/2019 08:16

if you say. Or, then it puts in those punctuation marks. Space. It's a bit hit and miss though .

juneybean · 01/02/2019 08:19

The problem with my dictation is that it doesn't understand my accent (geordie) so I have to speak cockney.

Njordsgrrrl · 01/02/2019 08:26

We've had "let your phone post" threads in chat before - nothing wrong with them!

So. I am not sure if it was a terrific excuse and I will be out killing 😲 the other day that works for us to do it. I have to keep googling the other old SIM contract with the door open on Monday morning.

^^ Promising start but got boring quickly. Story of my life 😕

prampushingdownthehighst · 01/02/2019 08:28

God this place has changed! People are so snippy
We have used dictation on the I pad with varying degrees of success. We have regional accents and it doesn't cope with it very well ( understatement)
