Working extra hours for free?

Pinkroseuk · 31/01/2019 20:41

Currently having new computer system installed. Colleagues are working on the new system so I'm currently covering for 3 others- working through lunch and putting about 2 extra hours in per week (7hours extra per week in total)
We have now been told we need to work an extra 5-10 hours a week to learn the system and in exchange get the change to win a £20 amazon gift card.
Can they do this? Or do I have any rights to say no? Thanks

They can’t do it if it would take your hourly salary below min wage.

Hadn't thought of that thanks @BowBeau - yes it would as only on minimum wage but paid annually thanks

Erm no you don't have to do any overtime that you don't want to. I'd tell them where to shove it!
