Bit worried about 5yr olds change in behaviour

I'm hoping people with older children will read this and tell me it's a known thing but I'm at a bit of a loss at the minute with my 5yr old.

It's like someone flipped a switch a few weeks ago and his behaviour has totally changed. He can't or won't focus on anything for very long, started talking back to me and DH, it's terrible getting him asleep at bedtime and he's in his own little world and doesn't seem to hear me until I shout his name. If you told me there was a virus that caused the change I'd nod because it would all make sense.

I just tried reading him a bedtime story, which he would usually love and listen intently to and he was interrupting every couple of words with a question or random comment. I switched to a picture book in case it was tiredness and it was the same.

His teacher and swimming teacher have commented on the change too.

Things that have may have triggered it recently could be that there's one boy bothering him in school that I'm going to speak to the teacher about, and then his baby brother has started to crawl and cruise the furniture so I'm wondering if he's getting less attention because of that than before.

He can have his moments like any child but he's usually a joy and it's becoming more of a struggle.

Any advice?

It could be glue ear, hearing problems often cause behaviour problems in children that age.

Oh, that list of symptoms is DS exactly! He hasn't complained of ear pain but he has been saying his ears are full of water and I put it down to swimming.
Thank you Smile
