Plymouth calling ... weird miscalls

Bumbelinadance · 31/01/2019 15:31

Just got a miscall on my mobile from a phone number in Plymouth . A landline number. It’s the 3rd in a week from this number .
I know nobody in Plymouth , except a solicitor a lovely ex tried to use to get money out of me , and have never been

I live south east England.

I rang the number back and enquired politely to the rather indignant lady who answered , said it was her home phone and she had it beside her all afternoon and definitely hadn’t called .
She asked her son “ Owen “who hadn’t called either .

Any amateur detectives out there for me ?

PPI?
Accident claim company?
Type the number into to google to see if it's a nuisance caller ...

Yeah some phone numbers get spoofed by scammers in order to make scam calls. It could be this. Landlines and mobiles are vulnerable to it. Particularly listed numbers. It's mainly a Mobile issue but there have been cases of landline spoofing. If not...then it's very weird and I have no idea.

Thats odd I had a call earlier in the week with the code of my home town-not recognising and wondering if there was a problem with my elderly dad i googled it - it was a spam number.

I get these, but they always appear to originate from a number in Leicester.

They only started after my son started studying at Leicester University.

MotorcycleMayhem · 31/01/2019 16:07

Have you googled the number?

It's called number spoofing. I think this method has been used by spammers since years ago. People should be aware of these scamming methods by now. I read thousands of reports filed by people about number spoofing since years ago at sites like whycall.me. You can just ignore calls if you don't recognize the numbers.
