'Smart' TVs - are they safe?? --or is the government watching me--

A new 'smart' TV has arrived in the living room. It was a gift, and a larger set was definitely needed as I'd started to squint at the old one and have to sit closer when the subtitles were on. However, I have concerns.

I've heard bad things about these smart devices, listening in on conversations, and OMG, the horror! having cameras concealed inside that watch you as you drip pasta sauce down your frontage and scratch your arse of an evening not usually at the same time Also the internet connectivity aspect - can it be hacked?

Seriously, I am a bit concerned and can't quite relax with it there. Not to mention that it seems to be giving me a headache and the picture isn't as good as my old one. Can you tell me the good/bad things about having a so-called smart TV?

It won't be the government eavesdropping.

TheQueef · 31/01/2019 15:39

Yus they can be hacked.
If you really want it safe it has to be dumb.

Seriously? You don't have to connect it to the wifi.

LIZS - yes, I know. But if will be necessary if I wish to watch Netflx, etc on it.

Flibberty - yes, I know, I was joking about the government.
