How much water do you drink?

On a daily basis.

I've recently started tracking my water and on average, realised I only drink about 0.5l a day.

I’ve always drank lots for as long as I can remember. As a kid, parents at parties thought my parents were cruel as I only asked for water and wouldnt drink pop. I’ve always loved water, and now drink 4-5 litres a day depending how much I’ve exercised. I’ve always got water with me.

SarahJinx · 31/01/2019 22:44

I drink loads. I only drink water and I reckon I get through a pint of it every hour. I like to hve a bottle or a glass next to me at all times, I love ice cold water. I don’t drink anything else except coffee. And the odd beer.

HappyStripper · 01/02/2019 00:06

Some of the answers are honestly shocking. I mean I’m not the best water drinker, it’s something I’m working on but I mostly get under a liter right now as I forget to drink. However people saying they literally don’t drink any is crazy. Water is a basic bodily need, sure some comes from food but most foods are pretty lacking in it. Tea also isn’t much good for hydration considering it’s a diuretic.

I guess if anything this has made me feel much better about my water intake as I’ve at least been managing to get to 1.5 liters a few times a week recently, still working up to a consistent 2 liters though.

As with most engines and the human body is a good example you need to look at what the output is telling you to ascertain how well its running.

Pee, in this instance is a very good indicator!.

Should be a almost colourless light straw shade anything darker then your running short of water!

And that ain't good!!

Bluesheep8 · 01/02/2019 06:04

At least 3l of tap water at work. I fill and re fill a 2l bottle so I know how much I'm drinking. Plus tea/coffee.

pollyglot · 01/02/2019 06:13

4 litres a day, plus 6 cups of tea, 4 coffees and a glass of wine. The water is on doc's orders following a head injury, and in a heat wave.

Dongdingdong · 01/02/2019 07:15

There was a similar thread on here last year and a few people were claiming to drink 8-9 litres a day!

That’s actually very dangerous!

RedRedBluee · 01/02/2019 07:34

I drink between 3 and 5 litres of water a day.
Sometimes my thirst is completely unquenchable. I have issues.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/02/2019 07:59

I only drink water in the gym and to take my vitamins at night. The rest of the day is mainly decaff tea and a diet fizzy drink or two.
Your fluids don't all have to come from plain water.

CherryPavlova · 01/02/2019 08:04

It doesn’t have to be water to be good. Water is present in all drinks and lots of foods. That said, water is clearly better than cola or squash.

Tea, I drink lots of tea.about six or seven half pint mugs a day.

swirlette · 01/02/2019 08:14

2-3 litres a day (plus a coffee). I look and feel much worse if I have less than 2 litres.

LoniceraJaponica · 01/02/2019 08:24

“Drink when you’re thirsty. Doesn’t have to be water. Don’t be fooled by the frequently misquoted so called research funded by the bottled water industry!”

This ^^
Although I don’t wait until I am thirsty because in this weather I never am. I don’t love water, but drink load of tea. I can’t imagine coming into the house after a day out and saying “I could murder a glass of water” the way I would say “I could murder a cup of tea”
I’m glad I have a tea habit because I would get dehydrated as I just don’t enjoy water the way I enjoy drinking tea, especially when it’s cold. When I am cold I never fancy a cold drink, and in the summer the aircon at work is arctic, so I still drink hot drinks – to warm up.

Although, after reading TickleMyPickle’s post I might force myself to drink more water. However, in reality I would probably just get dehydrated and get a headache as I am never thirsty.

“Tea also isn’t much good for hydration considering it’s a diuretic.”

It still hydrates you though. If I didn’t drink tea my fluid consumption would go down significantly. I just can’t get excited about drinking plain water at all. And my wee is always pale.

goingtotown · 01/02/2019 08:53

I suffered with night cramps until I started drinking at least 1.5 litres of water a day. Could be a coincidence but it’s working for me.

Anon10 · 01/02/2019 09:07

Not enough really maybe 1L of water. Gallons of tea though! And a cheeky coffee although it gives me palpitations Grin

Anon10 · 01/02/2019 09:09

Aim for 2L but always so busy, I probably manage 1.5 on a good day.

Pickled0nion · 01/02/2019 09:19

At least 3 litres a day. It's all I drink really and I exercise a lot.

I'm curious as to what tracking 0.5l looks like! Surely that's just thinking, "I drank a glass of water"! Grin

Toughmonkeys · 01/02/2019 10:43

I've always been awful for not drinking enough. But I've been trying harder recently and I'd say I drink about 2 ltrs of fluid a day usually 1 - 1 1/2 is plain water. The rest coffee, fizzy juice or fruit juice

SallyWD · 01/02/2019 10:45

I drink a pint every morning to wake up my organs then a couple of glasses throughout the day and about 3 pints of tea

MillenialMum89 · 01/02/2019 10:53

I try to have at least 5 litres.

LoniceraJaponica · 01/02/2019 11:30

Why 5 litres?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 01/02/2019 11:35

I remember measuring it once and being quite startled by how much I drank. So much so that I asked the doctor, who claimed I was within a normal range, but who knows. I can't remember how much it was altogether, but it was about 6-8 litres, including coffee, but mainly tap water. I'll drain a pint glass overnight, and again in the morning before I go to work, as well as two coffees. I always have a glass of water on the go. If I go for a run, however short, I have to take a bottle with me, and can't believe people can do 5K with nothing.

Bizarrely, I drank very little as a child. I'd have a cup of tea with breakfast (which I'd not always finish) and maybe a glass of water at school. Another cuppa in the evening and that was me, right through my teenage years.

newrubylane · 01/02/2019 12:02

Tea and even coffee are not diuretics. Caffeine is, but the effect is entirely offset by the amount of water in the drink and drinking them will hydrate you overall. It just means that tea and coffee are not the most efficient way to hydrate yourself. If tea and coffee were dehydrating I'd be dead by now, as I'm sure there have been whole weeks of my life where I've drunk nothing but tea!

oldwhyno · 01/02/2019 12:27

a glass or two.

morningconstitutional2017 · 01/02/2019 12:39

I drink a lot of tea and have started to drink maybe three tall tumblers of water each evening. Whether it actually does me any good is hard to say.

musicmaiden · 01/02/2019 13:00

I agree it's harder to drink lots of water when it's cold outside. And way easier sat at a desk in the week then at weekends out and about. I probably average 8 glasses and drink quite a lot of tea as well.

For those who say they are always thirsty, I'd be off to the doctor if that was me. That's not a normal state of affairs.
