Ow, ow, ow. Slipped on black ice and feeling sorry for myself.

I slipped at DD's school. I can tell that I'm officially old now because as a young person I would have hoped that nobody saw it and picked myself up, but this time I hoped that people did see it and would come and help me. Grin

Oh you poor thing, I live in dread of falling. I have bad knees and am fat and I am terrified if I fall I won't be able to get back up.

Hoppinggreen · 31/01/2019 10:50

Falling over is horrible when you get a bit older.
I think up until 30 it’s ok but after that it’s really upsetting for some reason, no idea why.
Hope you aren’t hurt x

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/01/2019 11:06

Fortunately I fell 'well', I sat straight down on my arse. So I jarred my back, which is now stiff but only a little sore, and I will be getting a giant bruise on my arse, but at least my coccyx isn't bruised or broken. And there were plenty of people around so I was gently helped up, wrapped in a fluffy blanket and given a heat pad and nice cup of coffee. I'm 51 now and definitely feel a fall much more than I did in my 20s.

I feel your pain. 28 weeks pregnant fell down the stairs top to bottom. Definitely feeling it today. Dh had literally just said to me because on the ice outside don't slip. Then boom all the way down! Not a single bruise though.. But feel like I've been dragged through a hedge. Second time I have done it in this pregnancy too!

ReaganSomerset · 31/01/2019 13:32

If you've a mind to you can complain to the school. They should have put grit down. What if a parent carrying a baby had slipped and fallen?

TheQueef · 31/01/2019 13:37

Just to make you feel better...few years ago...
I fell in York city centre at Christmas.
I had a new wool winter coat and it was massive, I could barely carry the sod.
At the top of the cobbly hill the coat overpowered me.
I fell and rolled.
Like a giant black boulder, over and over.
Even took a corner with the help of railings and rolled through a Japanese tourist group.
People were scattering right and left it was almost choreographed.
My DP laughed so hard he pulled a muscle.
Oh and I peed at some point.

That made me chuckle. Nearly woke the baby!

PearsandWine · 31/01/2019 13:44

Beautifully described TheQueef!

I hate icy pavements and am picking my way gingerly along them whilst my dogs gambol about without a care in the world. Definitely a case of for legs good two legs bad as far as I am concerned!

thequeef Grin Grin

I fell down the stairs yesterday and every inch of my body hurts today. New puppy ran up the stairs I grabbed him and lost my footing carrying him back down obviously my instinct was don't drop the puppy so I had no hands to save myself ouch

PearsandWine · 31/01/2019 13:44

Four legs FFS. And I proofread too!

ParkheadParadise · 31/01/2019 13:48

Oh TheQueef
😂😂😂

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/01/2019 15:30

Grin That's so funny TheQueef. I hope you weren't hurt too much, hopefully the massive coat acted as a buffer.

I think the slipping was unfortunate, it was only a bit frosty when I went in but it drizzled while I was inside and the wetness froze smoothly on the ground so it didn't look icy. They did put down grit after my slip.

ouch! I took a massive fall on my arse last year rollerblading (I had all the protective gear on) - it was dropped on my arse or heading towards a pond. I was in agony for a loooonggg time. Fast forward a few months and I went to a rollerdisco with my DD and nieces....and fell on my knee. 5 months later.....my knee is still partially numb. Yeah, it makes me feel ancient. Won't stop me rollerblading though.

DareDevil223 · 31/01/2019 16:02

Poor you, I'm 51 as well and last week I fell down the stairs at home and knocked myself out so I had concussion and was covered in bruises.

I could have killed myself or at least broken something so I'm again thankful that I appear to be made of metal Smile

TheQueef · 31/01/2019 16:14

My York visit always cheers people who've fallen.
I was saved physical injury by the coat (seriously it could withstand point blank nuclear assault) but my pride still whickers when I think of it.

It wasn't even icy I was just an absolute unit in that coat.

DustyMcDustbuster · 31/01/2019 16:23

Hope you’re ok! Someone posted on Twitter the other day you know you’re getting old when you stop saying “I fell” & instead say “I had a fall” lol.

I once fell out of Ryman’s on the high st. It was pouring with rain & I flew forwards, landing with my head on the road. I was so mortified I just lay there. Until ppl started screaming for an ambulance. At which point I had to admit I was fine, just very fucking embarrassed.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 31/01/2019 16:30

TheQueef, that's the first time I've ever laughed out loud at a mumsnet post. I'm afraid I'd probably have laughed as much as your partner did (after first checking you hadn't seriously injured yourself).

JJBlinks · 31/01/2019 18:55

TheQueef that made me laugh so much - my DC’s think I’ve gone mad....thank you for brightening up my day...!

Ollivander84 · 31/01/2019 19:03

Can I recommend yaktrax for winter? I'm scared of falling because I've had spinal surgery but these are sent from the gods
All the sales guys thought they were funny laughing at me today until I was skipping along on the black ice and they were like bambi. I had a couple slope up to me and ask where to get them Grin

Arnoldillo · 31/01/2019 19:08

Yaktrax are marvellous but I find they don't work on the really thin ice, sadly. They have to have something to grip into.

IceBearRocks · 31/01/2019 19:25

I've got a herniated disc in my back and today I've been so aware of every step....any more Gapapentin and I'll need booking into rehab !😲

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/02/2019 17:06

I bought myself a pair of these today and they are in the door pocket of my car just in case I need them in the future.

delboysskinsandblister · 01/02/2019 17:46

Still we get our dinner made for us don't we. Enjoying be waited on hand a foot.. (There's no emoticon for frozen peas but I recommend Aldi mixed veg Grin)

@Queef

LOL! Are you Miranda Hart?

UnicornPug · 01/02/2019 18:26

I fell over a kerb last week and broke a rib. My knees are still black and blue! Hideous.
