Just that really. What are some really good medicines/treats to send to a student with a bad cold? I have a medium budget.

Hand soap and a good quality desinfectant hand gel for on the go. To prevent future colds! Also

Echinacea
Herbal teas
a nice jar of honey
All the ingredients to make a hot toddy
Tumeric (root if you can find it) mixed with ginger, lemon and honey as a tea is really good
Finally, lemsip
Fruit hamper

Ultra balm tissues. Chances are they will be trying to use loo roll to save money. Olbas oil and Vicks.

Hankies. Tissue always makes my nose bright red and sore.

Loved it when my mum washed them first so they smelt like home

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2019 23:11

Day Nurse and Night Nurse - you can get packs containing capsules of both, enough for a couple of days.
Vicks
Honey and lemons - very soothing
A hot water bottle, if they don't already have one (assuming no electric blanket).

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 30/01/2019 23:19

Lip balm. Cosy socks. Voucher for supermarket so they can get some nice soups/a couple of easy ready meals.

RagingWhoreBag · 30/01/2019 23:22

Lockets/Tunes
One of those vicks things that goes up your nose.
Fisherman’s friends so they can make risqué jokes about sucking on a fisherman’s friend.
A magazine or book to keep them entertained if bedridden.

Endofrelationship · 30/01/2019 23:23

Get a dominoes/ pizza hut delivered to them.

WatcherintheRye · 30/01/2019 23:30

Could you do him a small online shop, including tissues, lemsip, honey, some ready meals, fruit and chocolate plus any other essentials he needs? Hope he gets well soon.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 30/01/2019 23:34

Second FaithInfinity with the balm tissues. It's like giving your nose a soft hug after scraping it on hard toilet roll.

HollowTalk · 30/01/2019 23:34

If you have the money, get a heated throw. They're amazing and very cheap to run.

I have this one but I think you can get cheaper ones.

Fluffyears · 30/01/2019 23:39

Lemsip, the Aldi blackcurrant one isn’t too awful.

runoutofnamechanges · 30/01/2019 23:48

First Defence spray (one of the few things that kill the virus rather than relieving symptoms)
Ultra balm tissues
Nurofen cold and flu or the generic equivalent (if they can take ibuprofen) as a painkiller and decongestant
If you are sending them a paracetamol based cold remedy like Lemsip or Night Nurse, make sure they know not to take paracetamol as well
Lip balm
Fruit

And, if you can run to it, a takeaway curry! Chilli is antibacterial, inflammatory, analgesic and a decongestant.

Thanks all!

She is actually a pharmacy student so she'll be prudent with the paracetamol! 💫 I appreciate the all the medicinal suggestions. Especially the blackcurrant lemsip!

The hot water bottle and throw are a nice idea too. Easy to send by post. Along with the ready meals.

The poor thing works so hard. She never complains so for her to mention she's unwell makes me think she's been hit pretty hard by a cold or flu.
