Most uncomfortable place you have ever sat?

I would say in primary before we got to the year 6 they used to make us sit on the floor and it was very hard and uncomfortable and I think it was also because year 6s got to sit on benches.

The front seat of a Mazda MX5. My back aches just thinking about it.

Foslady · 30/01/2019 21:13

Any event at dd’s School - the back support is almost non existent so you either have to try and sit upright for 2 hours at a time on a hard seat or if you sit back it’s like a long core stability session

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 30/01/2019 21:14

Local Church Christmas 2017. Concert for daughter's school. I swear to God I thought my back was going to crack in half. I had to get up as the evening went on and stand at the back. Has completely put me off going to anything where I will have to sit in hard bastard seats.

Back seat of a mazda - felt like I was in a coffin Confused

Elfinablender · 30/01/2019 21:18

About 20 years ago at a bus station where they put the benches at this \ angle to stop homeless people sleeping there. It offered no sitting capacity, so more a suggestion of where to stand.

Plastic chairs on a speeding awareness course. I ended up having two days off work with a bad back!

TakenForSlanted · 30/01/2019 21:18

Meeting room at a former place of work. Very plush all in all but the chairs weren't hight adjustable and somehow built with giants in mind. Couldn't sit on them with my feet on the floor (and I'm not that short, just average).

I've sat on more uncomfortable surfaces for a short while, but those things for all day events were true torture. Used to get a back ache that wouldn't go away for two days after long meetings.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/01/2019 21:18

I hope I don't get flamed for this. I was sat next to an extremely overweight person on a 7 hour flight to New York. I spent most of the flight balancing on my left buttock becsause this person was spilling over into my seat. I expect she was as uncomfortable as me though.

On a stool covered with four-inch sharp pointy metal nails in front of about 300 children after the demonstrator had just used them to pop a balloon.

The seats on my commuter train somehow make my jaw ache

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 30/01/2019 21:24

Tmi - - -
The bed sat waiting to go home after having ds.
Felt very strange indeed. Despite no fanjo damage I felt weird down there.
Turned out bladder had suffered the trauma of speedy delivery (2 hrs) and was filling up to an alarming amount.
Mw drained off bed pans full.
Had to stay in a week..
Sad

The seats on the platform of the graduation hall in the university where I work. They are not shaped for any human, completely uncushioned, give no back support and are slightly too high so I can't comfortably put my feet down on the floor. Torture for two hours every year. The Principal has what is virtually a throne to sit on, all right for some.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/01/2019 21:32

The restaurant at a hotel in the Scottish Borders. The chairs were wooden, with upholstered seats (like this picture).

I think that, when these are upholstered, it starts with webbing straps that support the padding and upholstery fabric - well, it was clearly years since these chairs had been re-upholstered. There was NO support under the padding, so when I sat on the chair, my bum sank down so far that the front of the frame was digging into the back of my thighs.

I could only sit comfortably for a few minutes - I was hurting before the starters arrived. Dh swapped chairs with me, in case it was just one chair. It wasn’t. The staff brought a chair from another table - still just as bad.

We were there for two days, dinner, bed and breakfast - so four meals on the Torture Chair. I asked if I could sit at a different table - that was a complete No No - I have no idea why.

I filled in their customer survey when I got home, and told them how uncomfortable I had been, and how it would put me off ever going to that hotel again, and they didn’t even bother to reply.

Bum - I forgot the picture.

A 10 hour Monarch airline flight. I couldn’t have my knees out straight in front of me had to sit with them at an angle. I cried.

simplyhaving · 30/01/2019 21:38

I work in a very nice events venue where clients spend a LOT of money to hire our rooms and our chairs are SO uncomfortable, I don't know why we ever get repeat business

nervousbreakdown · 30/01/2019 21:39

Similar to aprilshower , a nurse forced me to sit on a plastic chair (eg school style) after major vulval surgery, I had about 35 stitches or something crazy and nurses were determined I was going home so had to eat breakfast out of bed . No cushion or anything . Got home and spent the next 5 days lying flat on bed/sofa ... horrendous .

17hr flight on Emirates - never again

ThursdayLastWeek · 30/01/2019 21:40

The hair washing seats at hairdressers.
Normal ones are bad enough but I had to stop going to a particular salon because they had 'massaging' seats and they were absolute agony.

Asta19 · 30/01/2019 21:44

Economy flight 12 hours. My bum was hurting so much! I’m also quite tall with long legs and a short body so it is literally like torture. Now if I fly anywhere above 8 hours I fly business but I keep it a secret because people would judge me, lol.

The Albert Hall
The London coliseum

JustAnotherMillennial · 30/01/2019 21:54

2 hour school prize giving in the town hall, had to sit on chairs that felt like rocks.

Also one lecture theatre at Uni had the most uncomfortable seating, with the actual table bloody ages away from the seats so you had to lean forward, back was aching by the end of it.

lightisrightisnight · 30/01/2019 21:55

missing last train home at kings cross station. huddled outside in freezing cold till 5am waiting for the next one. Horrid!

Dancer12345 · 30/01/2019 21:55

DionneB My school has the same thing - year 6s on benches in the hall, everyone else on the hard floor. It was also the dining hall so occasionally there’d be dirt and the odd pea floating around!

IndigoSpritz · 30/01/2019 21:57

A pub I occasionally visit in a nearby town. Most of the seats are old oak church pews. They look nice but are incredibly uncomfortable and impractical for long-term seatedness. Can't be that good in a church either.
