Where can I buy rhubarb?

What a truly riverting question this is! I need to buy some rhubarb for this weekend.

I have it on great authority that forced rhubarb should now available.

I usually do a Morrisons online shop, they don't have any yet. So I'm going to have to bundle both kids in the car to go and find some. I really don't want to drag them to mull supermarkets to find some. Tried calling a few but none answered.

Has anyone seen any in store anywhere? I think Waitrose is my best bet but then I'll need to go elsewhere after for my main food shop, so rather hoping somewhere else night have some...

Could you not ring round rather than actually going to lots of shops?

Unless we know where you live it's probably not very helpful to know where you can get it in say Norwich.

cloudtree · 30/01/2019 18:38

tesco had it available last week for an online shop.

Sainsburys has some.

If you're anywhere near West Yorkshire you could try some of the farm shops in the Rhubarb triangle.

ring around your local farm shops

MiddlingMum · 30/01/2019 18:47

I bought some in Waitrose yesterday.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 30/01/2019 18:47

Any farmers’ markets near you?

shoofly · 30/01/2019 18:50

I'm in Northern Ireland, I can get it on an online shop

SuperMam123 · 30/01/2019 19:00

I bought some in Morrisons yesterday but it wasn't on the online shopping list when I tried to do my order.

Turkeycondundrum · 30/01/2019 19:34

I've tried calling but none of the shops picked up the phone.

SuperMam that's really good to know. I might just go to the next town and do all my shopping in Morrison's and hope they have some.

I am fairly sure Waitrose will have it, but they are a good half an hour away from us.

What I don't want is to go to Lidl as normal, find they have none, think oh I'll just try Tesco/sainsbos etc and have to trail round all the local supermarkets with two tiny terrors in tow.

It was lovely too! I made rhubarb and vanilla jam....tastes like rhubarb and custard sweets.

Raera · 30/01/2019 19:45

If you have a garden, plant a root or 2 and then like me you'll be making jam, chutney and of course rhubarb gin along with me!
Supermam, try adding a few strawberries as well, makes it a much richer colour

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/01/2019 19:50

I’ve seen forced rhubarb in Waitrose and Morrison’s in the last week or so.

SuperMam123 · 30/01/2019 19:52

Raera thanks, I will try that!

Turkeycondundrum · 30/01/2019 19:59

This is excellent! Sounds like I can just go to Morrison's for the lot!

I did think about growing some, but I need it for a crumble for this weekend. Next year if I can get my act together!!

Yorkshire. Can't move for funky, pink celery.

Raera · 30/01/2019 20:59

I live in Yorkshire too Mornings. Grows like weeds in my garden, but I don't mess about with buckets and forcing.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 31/01/2019 22:08

in store in tesco last saturday, right next to the cooking apples I was planning to get (obviously the rhubarb won)

BigStripeyBastard · 31/01/2019 22:14

I'm in Wakefield. Can't move for the ruddy stuff. Piled high at the sides of the roads, it is.
Farmers just roam the streets, trying to sneak it into people's bags.... ramming it through letterboxes and throwing it over fences into gardens.
That's why it's called Forced Rhubarb.

Babyroobs · 31/01/2019 22:24

I saw some in the reduced section of Asda yesterday !

cornflakegirl · 31/01/2019 22:25

Tinned?

It's like the day of the triffids

HeronLanyon · 01/02/2019 00:21

Waitrose have it. I just did my yearly massive rhubarb and ginger complete freezing session. Nicely I still have one period from last February - somehow I rationed it evenly. Brexit May buggernup this year’s supply if I have to exist on it through April and May etc Grin

HeronLanyon · 01/02/2019 00:22

Compote - stewed.
