Sooo many wonderful places.

Northumberland for its beaches, inland scenery, archaeology and peace.

North Norfolk for the big skies, great eating places, beaches and pretty cottages.

North Yorkshire for the seaside towns, wild moors and dales, and again lots of great places to eat.

The quieter parts of the Lake District eg Ennerdale for their stunning beauty.

East Neuk of Fife for quaint fishing villages and St Andrews.

Around Glencoe (out of season) for breathtaking beauty and nature.

Argyll and Bute again for its beauty and nature.

Outer Hebrides for its other worldlyness and Carribbeanesque beaches, but not the weather!

Brixham in Devon is fantastic as is north Norfolk

Our best UK holidays have been in North Norfolk, Cornwall and the North York Moors.

Edinburgh if you want a city. It’s got so much to see and do, bursting to the seams with interesting history, gorgeous restaurants and plenty of sightseeing.

Dorset if you want a seaside/harbour type resort. West Bay is lovely on the Jurassic Coast with a gorgeous beach, plenty of cliff side walks and nice cafes. There’s the biggest monkey sanctuary (in Europe I think) about a 40 min drive from there too.

Loch Ness or the Lake District if you want some stunningly beautiful and rugged countryside.

The Peak District if you want to do plenty of walking (but be aware that it’s the furthest away part of the country to the sea if you want to be coastal).

Cornwall, without a doubt. It's my favourite part of the country....no, the world. Shame it's a bugger to get to though Sad

It's my happy place.

We went to a cottage in Yorkshire last year got a fantastic week weather wise, did 2 days at flamingo land, York, war museum, country park, Scarborough. It was fantastic. Going again this year, just booked last night, can't wait. Holiday cottage on a smallish farm this time. Bet it rains 😂

Thank you all for the replies, I'm taking note. Should have added that I've two teens and a tween that want a bit of action (but aren't really into the beach) so walking holidays etc would not be on the table. I'd love to go to Cornwall but put off by the very long drive and I've read that traffic there is a nightmare in the summer? I do like the idea of a city near the coast.

Edinburgh is near the coast (Portobello beach is about a 15 min drive) and you can get to the Lochs up north etc if you hire a car. It’s such a fun city for tourists (basically like a smaller version of London).

Loved Pembrokeshire around St Davids, North Norfolk (wells by the sea etc, lovely dog friendly beach) North Devon (Appledore is a really lovely village with a tiny ferry to take you over to the sandy beach at Instow) plus you're not far from places like Woolacombe, Croyde Bay. Also love North Cornwall coast around Padstow.

New Forest. You have the option to camp or use hotels. You're close to Bournemouth/Dorset coast and also close to Southampton/Portsmouth for days out in the city.
