I have anxiety been managing it well with sertraline. Then this evening I've convinced myself that I am going to get a brain eating bug from rinsing my sinuses with tap water rather than boiled water. (there has been like 3 cases of this in usa where water standards are lower) anyway had horrific panic all evening and now in urgent care. I'm both terrified and feel like the biggest dick. Please tell me im going to be laughing at this one day and I 'm not going to die from anxiety or a bloody brain eating bug.

Do you think I’m going to die of a brain eating bug?? Or the next person you see?? Because it’s as likely to be me as it is you.

You are not unwell. There is no brain eating bug in your water or there would be a huge public scandal already.

Coolaschmoola · 30/01/2019 01:12

You are going to be absolutely fine. Our tap water is safe to drink so it's definitely fine for your sinuses.

Thanks I just feel really alone! Even being told I'm redic is company and distracting!

Have you taken yourself to A&E?

You’ll be fine, that’s so unlikely to happen. Go home, drink tea & concentrate on self care for a few days.

With the anxiety I usually find routine helps.

SneakyGremlins · 30/01/2019 01:18

I've just had a massive drink from the tap on the way back up to bed.

Everything will be fine OP SmileFlowers

It’s possibly tiredness making your anxiety worse. You’ll feel so much better once you’ve had some sleep, but don’t beat yourself up about it. Anxiety is a horrible little gremlin that makes us say and do things that we wouldn’t normally. You’re going to be ok.

SneakyGremlins · 30/01/2019 01:25

If you're in urgent care I assume it's for the anxiety not the non-existent - I promise - tap water bug? See if they can give you something for the anxiety, be it a sleeping tablet or similar, then I'd speak to your doctor about maybe looking at the medication you're on, do you think you need a slightly higher dose? Or is this just a blip? Flowers

Anxiety is a horrible shitbot that lies to you.

It makes you think irrational and daft things, and messes with your whole body as a result.

You will be absolutely fine honest. I was a lot younger, but when I was growing up I suffered from horrible anxiety and irrational thoughts that I couldn't understand. I refused to have a bath because I thought I'd die, and I couldn't even tell you why. My mum had to sit with me and make me have one to prove I wouldn't. Brains are weird things. Be kind to yourself.

DocusDiplo · 30/01/2019 01:26

Hi. I am sorry but i do not have experience talking to people with anxiety , but any feeling of impending doom or catastrophe is terrible. On the plus side, what you are focusing on is just not going to happen. You are completely completely safe. And I am soo sleepy . Are you wide awake ??

Aaaahfuck · 30/01/2019 01:47

Yes I went to urgent care for the anxiety not the brain bug. (I'm not that mad yet). It can be harsh on here at times but these few comments mean a lot.

Anxiety does lie to you. You know it's not rational but that doesn't matter in the moment. They recommended going to the GP to look at my meds. Also recommend doing some therapy like cbt to manage panic attacks. I'm home now got a cup of tea in bed. I just felt so out of control it was terrifying. Thanks for being there for me!

Hope you continue to feel calmer.

I have OCD I know all about completely bonkers brain farts! I bet mine are weirder than yours!

I also suffer with sinus issues which are a bastard and can be bloody painful! First time I had sinusitis i thought it was a brain tumour, SO PAINFUL.

GP sussed it straight away and prescribed a nasal spray which helped a lot but they don't use it now.

So olbas oil, menthol, eucalyptus oil, steam all help

For me saline washes made it worse not sure why.

Take care and ask for more help if you need to Thanks
