Baby won't sleep without my nipple in her mouth! Help!

My LG is 19 weeks old so bang on for the 4 month sleep regression but what's going on at the moment is ridiculous. Instead of just feeding to sleep at night, (which i'm fine with) she currently will not continue to sleep unless my nipple is in her mouth. I am literally her dummy! If i think shes asleep and I pop her off with my finger, she roots around and starts flapping straight away. Despite having a next to me crib, she's currently bed sharing with me but my DH and I are getting so little sleep it's madness. We also have a 2yo DS to throw into the mix.
What do I do to get her off the nipple and break this bad habit?? I've tried rocking/shushing/tapping etc. But she just howls and howls. Bizarrely, she can send herself off to sleep during the day. Any advice gratefully appreciated!

Dummy

Dummy? I didn't use one with my first and had the same issue you have. My second has one and it's a lifesaver!

Dummy! They are not the Devil. She wants to suck for comfort, so let her.

Sparrowlegs248 · 29/01/2019 23:43

Warm the dummy up, pop her off and when she roots pop the dummy in and hold it in or two it a bit til she suckles

Another one for a dummy here

Lying down to feed and just leaving your boob out? I'm in the exact same place at the moment and that's pretty much what I'm doingConfused

That's where I am at the minute 😣 and thanks for all the dummy suggestions but she won't take one (or a bottle for that matter).

Have you tried a dummy with a latex teat? The old fashioned brown type? That’s the only one DS1 would take, think it was a MAM one.

It will pass! I remember this phase so well. Hang in there, it will change. It is a rough and frustrating time for you so feel all the feelings without any guilt.
Also check out the wonder weeks app. It's great for understanding what's going on beyond just a sleep regression. Also get yourself a good carrier/front pack to get through the next few weeks.

Again, dummy? The obvious answer- or bottle feed when in bed?

merrybloominchristmas · 30/01/2019 10:18

hoiw are you giving her the dummy? i remember a friend saying her child wouldn't take a dummy and she was just sort of preffering it in the direction of her mouth!
You need the avent ones with the the flat teat , you need to put in the mouth and hold it there until she gets the idea and starts sucking

AllTheCakes · 30/01/2019 10:18

Could you try a nipple shield to get her used to the latex feeling and then swap it for a dummy once she is used to it?
