short prison sentence for pedophile! Trigger

Female pedophile has received a 7 year sentence for multiple acts of child abuse, story here (potentially very triggering) -

7 years?? Meaning she’ll be out of prison in 3.5 years? If that was my children I’d be fuming. Does anyone else think that sentance is an insult to the victims?

Pedophiles/rapist/child abusers seem to get less time in prison than drug offences these days. I can’t get my head around it.

The offences are horrific, but the offender's own history is tragic and will have been taken into account as mitigation.

Sadly when our mental health services are so underfunded, victims of abuse are not given the support they need and there is a demonstrable pattern of (some) victims then going on to abuse others.

There are no winners in this terrible case.

This is only ‘news’ because she is young and female, which defies people’s expectations of what a child abuser is like. There are numerous cases unfortunately where the perpetrator is male, you will only hear of the more extreme examples though.
Her life will never be the same, much like the victims and their families. Hopefully she will receive sex offender treatment and not go on to reoffend.

I hate that excuse, I understand it but I hate it. They used the fact my ex watch his dad beat his mum half to death as an excuse for what he did to me too. Someone took her innocence, that’s horrible, doesn’t give you any more right to take it from someone else.

Not referring just to this story anyway, I mean in general, the sentencing for things like this is too low.

I think it made news and it’s shocking not because she’s female but because she was a nursery worker who chose to put herself in a position with under 4s.

Was she the teenager?

Definitely not long enough, there should be a minimum term for all paedophiles of at least 20 years. She also placed herself in a role where she could have access to children in a private environment.
Yes some people who have been abused go on to abuse, but the majority don't. Its not a mitigating factor and it should not be allowed as an excuse, it just adds to the perception that abused people grow up to be abusers.
